Poverty, Development Project and Methodology-Need to Change the Approach

The institutes working to eradicate global poverty by supporting development projects should question their methodological approach. Global poverty figures are worrisome and International institutes are struggling to arrange funds for their activities. It is time to reevaluate the term “sustainable growth”, and more focus should be given to “comparable growth”, under it project outcomes are measured against the provincial values, than after best national figures and lastly with international best. The approach is to find measurable standards to establish the existing gap between the best benefits and project outcomes. Sustainable and poverty eradicating growth is only possible if outcomes are competitive locally, regionally, nationally and at international level. The paper studies Chhattisgarh Irrigation Development Project (CIDP) and evaluates its results for methodological improvement, the emphasis is to devise a practical approach and focus on comparable growth and address shortcomings of development projects in general.

THE MILLENNIUM DEVELOPMENT GOALS (MDGS) AND GLOBAL POVERTY: HAVE WE REALLY FAILED?

MDGs was implemented over the period 2000-2015 by the United Nations along with 189 members states to tackle several crucial issues, namely ‘extreme poverty and hunger, universal primary education, gender equality and woman empowerment, child mortality, maternal health, HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases, environmental sustainability and globally developmental partnership’ (United Nations 2014). After 2015, the MDGs which was adopted by 189 members states was evaluated by comparing between the MDGs’ targets and its results. By using archival research data, this paper argues that the MDGs have not really failed in fighting against global poverty, because the MDGs showed a global willingness to alleviate numbers of poverty and the MDGs have achieved prominent improvement.

New Institutions for Global Justice and Alleviating Global Poverty

Alleviation of global poverty, especially in the global South has an urgent issue of moral concern for world leadership. Global institutions have laid down various proposals to eradicate poverty across the globe but nothing substantial has changed and still millions of people are living in acute poverty. Global academia especially political theorists/philosophers have tried to address the issue of global poverty and in this paper I will be discussing the cosmopolitan position to address the issue. The proposed paper seeks to explore: what must a globally egalitarianinstitutional design look like that addresses the morally urgent problem of global poverty,especially in the global south?
