The article analyzes the category of literary space which is understood here rather as a metaphor of experiencing identity, memory and postmemory than as a spatial term sensu stricto. The author reflects on the novel by Anna Bolecka, Biały kamień [White stone], and more specifically on the hidden tropes of the blurred and denied past memories of Jewish genealogical component of today’s Polishness. The reading of the novel’s poetics demonstrates the importance of female characters that, apart from their function in the plot construction, figuratively signify the lost Jewish mother of today’s, mostly Catholic, Poland. In addition, following the thinking of Julia Kristeva, of special significance are the images of abject art.

Double exposure speckle is proposed to calibrate eddy current sensor in micro-displacement measurement for its simplicity, robustness and high resolution. The specklegram is taken as the vector of the displacement. The actual displacement of an object is calculated according to the speckle displacement on the spatial term, which is worked out according to the fringe spacing on the spectrum surface. A calibration system is proposed with proper speckle size and imaging magnification. Experiments showed that the accuracy of displacement measurement is 0.196um with an optical magnification 65.8. The calibration curve of the eddy current sensor is consistent with the result by a nanopositioning system.

ABSTRACTForty children, aged 1 ; 8–2 ; 0, participated in one of three training conditions meant to enhance their comprehension of the spatial term under: the +Gesture group viewed a symbolic gesture for under during training; those in the +Photo group viewed a still photograph of objects in the under relationship; those in the Model Only group did not receive supplemental symbolic support. Children's knowledge of under was measured before, immediately after, and two to three days after training. A gesture advantage was revealed when the gains exhibited by the groups on untrained materials (but not trained materials) were compared at delayed post-test (but not immediate post-test). Gestured input promoted more robust knowledge of the meaning of under, knowledge that was less tied to contextual familiarity and more prone to consolidation. Gestured input likely reduced cognitive load while emphasizing both the location and the movement relevant to the meaning of under.
