The enhancement of laminar forced convection inside helical pipes is studied numerically and compared with plain pipes. The study is achieved numerically using the (Fluent-CFD 6.3.26) software program for solving the governing equations. The heat transfer factor and friction factor are calculated using the enhancement technique and compared with the plain tube. In this research the factors that affect the enhancement technique using helical pipes are studied, these factors are the ratio of (pitch /pipe length) (SL), Reynolds number and the heat flux applied to the external surface of the pipe. The results showed that there is an increasing in the heat transfer factor is related to the decreasing of (SL), increasing of Reynolds number and heat flux. The performance of the helical pipes is evaluated depending on the calculation of (Enhancement ratio), and its found that the enhancement ratio increases as Reynolds number increases and (SL) decreases. It is found that the best enhancement ratio was (200%) at (SR=0.05), (Re=2000),(Heat flux=3000W/m2).The results are compared with the literature and there is a good agreement.

Abstract The heat transfer and pressure drop in a microchannel heat sink with 02 mixing chambers with inclined walls were numerically studied. The transport equations have been resolved by the finite volume method using ANSYS Fluent software. The operating fluids are water and Al2O3-water. The results obtained for Reynolds numbers ranging from 187 and 705 show that adding a micro-mixing chamber with a rectangular rib in the microchannel improves the heat transfer and increases the pressure drop compared to conventional microchannels. The new shape of the mixing chamber studied shows a net decrease in pressure drop, which improves the performance of the micro heat sink by 5.6%.

Abstract This study investigates laminar convective heat transfer of water flowing in a mini-channel with a rough surface fabricated by Laser-based Powder Bed Fusion (L-PBF) technology. A Gaussian model was used for generating random roughness, and then the three-dimensional numerical simulation was performed in ANSYS-Fluent 19.1. The numerical results indicated a more than double increase in the Nusselt number of rough channels than that of smooth ones with a marginal pressure drop penalty compared to smooth channels, showing the potential benefits of using rough channels fabricated by L-PBF for heat transfer applications.

Abstract A three-dimensional (3D) numerical investigation is carried out to examine the effect of magnetic field (MF) on laminar forced convection of ferrofluids. Laminar flow (Reynolds number (Re) ≤ 100) of ferrofluid is modeled in a square mini-channel of 2 mm hydraulic diameter in the presence of the MF. A magnetic force is induced in ferrofluids because of the applied MF, which accelerates the upstream flow and decelerates the downstream flow with respect to the magnet's location. The acceleration/deceleration of the flow disrupts the hydrodynamic and thermal boundary layers (BLs), positively affecting the heat transfer. The extent of magnetic influence primarily depends on the Reynolds number and induced magnetic force. At low Re (= 25), where magnetic force dominates over inertial force, the flow of ferrofluid is strongly affected by the MF. This results in a higher augmentation in convective heat transfer. As the Re of the flow is increased to Re = 75, the inertial forces partially overcome the effect of the magnetic force, resulting in a smaller augmentation. The interaction of magnetic and inertia forces is expressed through a dimensionless magnetic Froude number (Frm). The effect of volumetric concentration of nanoparticles, Reynolds number, and the presence of multiple magnets placed along the flow channel on heat transfer is investigated through a parametric study. A correlation has also been proposed to predict the net enhancement in the Nusselt number due to the application of the MF based on the results of the present study.
