We define a notion of connection in a fibre bundle that is compatible with a singular foliation of the base. Fibre bundles equipped with such connections are in plentiful supply, arising naturally for any Lie groupoid-equivariant bundle, and simultaneously generalising regularly foliated bundles in the sense of Kamber-Tondeur and singular foliations. We define hierarchies of diffeological holonomy groupoids associated to such bundles, which arise from the parallel transport of jet/germinal conservation laws. We show that the groupoids associated in this manner to trivial singularly foliated bundles are quotients of Androulidakis-Skandalis holonomy groupoids, which coincide with Androulidakis-Skandalis holonomy groupoids in the regular case. Finally we prove functoriality of all our constructions under appropriate morphisms.

Geometry of orbit is a subject of many investigations because it has important role in many branches of mathematics such as dynamical systems, control theory. In this paper it is studied geometry of orbits of conformal vector fields. It is shown that orbits of conformal vector fields are integral submanifolds of completely integrable distributions. Also for Euclidean space it is proven that if all orbits have the same dimension they are closed subsets.

For a knot [Formula: see text], its exterior [Formula: see text] has a singular foliation by Seifert surfaces of [Formula: see text] derived from a circle-valued Morse function [Formula: see text]. When [Formula: see text] is self-indexing and has no critical points of index 0 or 3, the regular levels that separate the index-1 and index-2 critical points decompose [Formula: see text] into a pair of compression bodies. We call such a decomposition a circular Heegaard splitting of [Formula: see text]. We define the notion of circular distance (similar to Hempel distance) for this class of Heegaard splitting and show that it can be bounded under certain circumstances. Specifically, if the circular distance of a circular Heegaard splitting is too large: (1) [Formula: see text] cannot contain low-genus incompressible surfaces, and (2) a minimal-genus Seifert surface for [Formula: see text] is unique up to isotopy.

We show that any generalized smooth distribution on a smooth manifold, possibly of non-constant rank, admits a Riemannian metric. Using such a metric, we attach a Laplace operator to any smooth distribution as such. When the underlying manifold is compact, we show that it is essentially self-adjoint. Viewing this Laplacian in the longitudinal pseudodifferential calculus of the smallest singular foliation which includes the distribution, we prove hypoellipticity.

The concept of material distribution is introduced as describing the geometric material structure of a general non-uniform body. Any smooth constitutive law is shown to give rise to a unique smooth integrable singular distribution. Ultimately, the material distribution and its associated singular foliation result in a rigorous and unique subdivision of the material body into strictly smoothly uniform components. Thus, the constitutive law induces a unique partition of the body into smoothly uniform sub-bodies, laminates, filaments and isolated points.

We explain and motivate Stefan–Sussmann singular foliations, and by replacing the tangent bundle of a manifold with an arbitrary Lie algebroid, we introduce singular subalgebroids. Both notions are defined using compactly supported sections. The main results of this note are an equivalent characterization, in which the compact support condition is removed, and an explicit description of the sheaf associated to any Stefan–Sussmann singular foliation or singular subalgebroid.

AbstractIn previous papers ([1, 2]) we defined the C*-algebra and the longitudinal pseudodifferential calculus of any singular foliation (M,). In the current paper we construct the analytic index of an elliptic operator as a KK-theory element, and prove that this element can be obtained from an “adiabatic foliation” on M×ℝ, which we introduce here.
