This article presents test results of aggressive environment impact, i.e., seawater, acid solutions and carbonation, on the durability of cement–ash mortars. Tests were conducted on CEM I 42.5R-based mortars containing 35 to 70% by mass of FBC fly ash from brown and black coal combustion in a homogeneous form and mixtures of 35% by mass of siliceous fly ashes (CFA) and 35% by mass of FBC fly ash. It was demonstrated that in normal conditions (20 °C), FBC ashes showed higher pozzolanic activity than CFA, except when their curing temperature was increased to 50 °C. FBC ashes increased mortars’ water demands, which led to an accelerated carbonation process. In an environment of Cl− ions, cement–ash mortars showed more Ca2+ ions leached and no expansive linear and mass changes, which, with their increased strength, might be an argument in favour for their future use in construction of coastal structures resistant to seawater. FBC ash content may be increased to 35% by mass, maintaining mortars’ resistance to seawater, acid rain and carbonation. A favourable solution turned out to be a FBC and CFA mixed addition to cement of 35% by mass each, in contrast to mortars containing 70% of FBC fly ash in homogeneous form.

Abstract A family f of polynomials over a number field K will be called weighted homogeneous if and only if ft(z) = F(ze, t) for some binary homogeneous form F(X, Y) and some integer e ≥ 2. For example, the family zd + t is weighted homogeneous. We prove a lower bound on the canonical height, of the form \begin{align*} \hat{h}_{f_{t}}(z)\geq \varepsilon \max\!\left\{h_{\mathsf{M}_{d}}(f_{t}), \log|\operatorname{Norm}\mathfrak{R}_{f_{t}}|\right\},\end{align*} for values z ∈ K which are not preperiodic for ft. Here ε depends only on the number field K, the family f, and the number of places at which ft has bad reduction. For suitably generic morphisms $\varphi :\mathbb {P}^{1}\to \mathbb {P}^{1}$, we also prove an absolute bound of this form for t in the image of φ over K (assuming the abc Conjecture), as well as uniform bounds on the number of preperiodic points (unconditionally).

Sommario Drawing on Antoine Berman’s theory of translation as a critical act, this article analyzes the Swedish translation of Giovanni Verga's masterpiece I Malavoglia. The actual translation analysis therefore takes as its starting point a pre-analysis that highlights the translator’s individual motives to deviate from the source text. The results show that the Swedish translator has done extensive changes to Verga’s polyphonic novel, giving it a more homogeneous form. Drawing on theoretical ideas on the translator’s unconscious and habitus, the article shows that the translator has downplayed the novel’s expressive and vernacular traits as well as the patriarchal perspectives, emphasizing instead the novel’s religious paths.

H3PW12O40 is a commonly used Brønsted acid catalyst in esterification and transesterification reactions to produce biodiesel, for which homogeneous form and single acid sites lead to difficulties in separation and relatively less activity.

The role of sialyloligosaccharides on the surface of secreted glycoproteins is still unclear because of the difficulty in the preparation of sialylglycoproteins in a homogeneous form. We selected erythropoietin (EPO) as a target molecule and designed an efficient synthetic strategy for the chemical synthesis of a homogeneous form of five EPO glycoforms varying in glycosylation position and the number of human-type biantennary sialyloligosaccharides. A segment coupling strategy performed by native chemical ligation using six peptide segments including glycopeptides yielded homogeneous EPO glycopeptides, and folding experiments of these glycopeptides afforded the correctly folded EPO glycoforms. In an in vivo erythropoiesis assay in mice, all of the EPO glycoforms displayed biological activity, in particular the EPO bearing three sialyloligosaccharides, which exhibited the highest activity. Furthermore, we observed that the hydrophilicity and biological activity of the EPO glycoforms varied depending on the glycosylation pattern. This knowledge will pave the way for the development of homogeneous biologics by chemical synthesis.
