Aiming at the problems such as updating difficulty, searching slowly and calling inconveniently occurs in use of current 3D Standard Part Library, the method to classify Standard Part data by function and the corresponding operations of each type of classified Standard Part data are analyzed firstly based on the real application and management requirements of the 3D Standard Parts Data. Then, the conception and the architecture of the data driven 3D Standard Part library is discussed based on the goal such as quick retrieve, automatic modeling and dynamical update of the Standard Part data and the methods as well as the key technology to develop the data driven 3D Standard Part Library are discussed based on the Pro/E and Access.

Mechanical Design Handbook oriented standard part library system of jaw clutches is developed based on SolidWorks. The system consists of three elements, namely a dimension parameter database, a user interface, and a modeling function module. The jaw clutch dimension parameter database is designed based on national standards. According to designers’ thinking habit, a visual user interface is customized to make easy use of the dimension parameter database. The data relationship between the modeling function module and dimension parameter database is established by using parametric program driven method. The jaw clutch standard part library with characteristics of friendly user interface and expansible database is easy to use. The approach adopted in the paper can be used to develop other general 3D standard part library on SolidWorks.

With Pro/Toolkit of Pro/E and ADO(ActiveX Data Object) database technology, part parametric CAD system is developed and an successful instance is introduced in the paper. In the CAD system, interface between Pro/E and VC++6.0 is created correctly using Pro / Toolkit and user interface for part parametric designing can be achieved by means of dll( dll dynamic link) library built in VC++6.0 .Meanwhile ADO database is applied in the CAD system to manage all part parameters and thus part revising and updating can be realized quickly. The developing method in the CAD system not only is applicable to typical mechanical part designing but also be helpful to establishing standard part library.

In order to solve the problem of 3D intricate product design and mold development, an approach based on UG NX was proposed. The design platform and modular technology of UG MoldWizard were introduced. How to add and edit attributes of the standard part library was explained by using sankyo lifter as example. As an application, a lamp set and its injection mold were rapidly designed by UG MoldWizard. How to patch surfaces, define parting lines and how to extract mold core and mold cavity were illustrated step by step. It proved that UG MoldWizard efficiently promoted work and integrated complex elements of design technology into automated sequences.
