The paper shows the promising use of the "fractal dimension" parameter for qualitative and quantitative analysis of the surface structure of samples based of micrographs obtained by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. The interrelation of this parameter with some mechanical characteristics of polymeric composite material PTFE-3%tu121 is investigated.

Taking out and opening the ordinary multilayer fruit paper bag for fruit bagging is labor intensive, costly, not efficient, and potentially dangerous to the operator’s health. There is a high demand to develop a mechanical device for the operation in Chinese orchards. A novel supplying device based on the manual operated fruit bag case was proposed. The open hand of the supplying device operates like a farmer’s hand that can continuously take out a multilayer fruit paper bag one by one, and open it fully from its inside. Mechanism configuration and dimension parameter of the open hand were designed based on preliminary tests. The operation functionality of the supplying device prototype at different driving trajectories and speed was investigated in the study. The laboratory experimental data indicated that driving trajectory was an extremely significant factor for efficiently taking out and opening the fruit bag without sliding off and damage. Driving speed had a beneficial effect on reducing supplying time. With the synchronous driving trajectory and allowable high moving speed, the developed supplying device could achieve more than 90% opening success rate and less than 2-second opening time. The study showed the potential of the developed mechanical supplying device for fruit bagging with ordinary multilayer fruit paper bags.

In this paper, the profile of the bar is detected by laser vision technology. During the detection process, obvious isolated outliers can be observed in the profile data; dimension parameter and profile-fitting accuracy are seriously affected by these outliers. In order to eliminate these outliers and improve the measurement accuracy, this paper uses Hampel identifier and moving mean identifier to identify isolated outliers. At the same time, the profile data is fitted, and the fitting results and fitting accuracy were analyzed and compared between the original data and the renovated data. The experiment proves that the outliers in the data must be identified and processed in the data measurement process. The Hampel identifier has better recognition effect, its algorithm is simple, efficient, and robust, and it can play an important role in the preprocessing of profile data based on structured light.

Abstract. In this paper we study the spatiotemporal properties of waves in the Lorenz-96 model and their dependence on the dimension parameter n and the forcing parameter F. For F > 0 the first bifurcation is either a supercritical Hopf or a double-Hopf bifurcation and the periodic attractor born at these bifurcations represents a traveling wave. Its spatial wave number increases linearly with n, but its period tends to a finite limit as n → ∞. For F < 0 and odd n, the first bifurcation is again a supercritical Hopf bifurcation, but in this case the period of the traveling wave also grows linearly with n. For F < 0 and even n, however, a Hopf bifurcation is preceded by either one or two pitchfork bifurcations, where the number of the latter bifurcations depends on whether n has remainder 2 or 0 upon division by 4. This bifurcation sequence leads to stationary waves and their spatiotemporal properties also depend on the remainder after dividing n by 4. Finally, we explain how the double-Hopf bifurcation can generate two or more stable waves with different spatiotemporal properties that coexist for the same parameter values n and F.

Metal bellows are used as a spring element and simultaneously as a container (shell) for a damping medium in vibration isolators, especially in applications where any leakage is inadmissible. Dynamic behaviour of these isolators is affected by axial stiffness of bellows and by a resistance against axial deformation of bellows filled with fluid, which is in this article called pressure thrust stiffness. A method of the pressure thrust stiffness determination is discussed in this study. The method uses FEM model, which has been verified by stiffness measurement of a chosen bellows. Consequently, the sensitivity analysis of bellows dimensions to axial and pressure thrust stiffness was performed to find a dimension parameter of bellows which allows to adjust the ratio between axial and pressure thrust stiffness. Sensitivity analysis shows that the stiffness ratio of metal bellows can be adjusted by two dimensional parameters - mean diameter of bellows and corrugation width.

This chapter considers how verb phrases such as build a raft optionally acquire a distributive interpretation, and reformulates the covert distributivity operators of Link 1987 (the atomic D operator) and Schwarzschild 1996 (the nonatomic Part operator) in terms of the two parameters of stratified reference. By varying the granularity parameter, the difference between atomic and nonatomic views of distributivity is captured and clarified. By varying the dimension parameter, these distributivity operators are extended to the temporal domain and used to explain why indefinites in the syntactic scope of for-adverbials tend not to covary with them (?John found a flea on his dog for a month, Zucchi {&} White 2001).

Chetty et al. (2014) document variation across commuting zones in intergenerational mobility. With over 700 commuting zones, the task of estimating place effects involves a high-dimension parameter space. I develop a fixed-effects model along with an oracle bound on the risk of invariant estimators. The oracle estimator uses an invariant prior, which I have incorporated into a random-effects model to obtain a feasible estimator. This estimator almost achieves the oracle bound over the relevant part of the (fixed-effects) parameter space in the empirical application. There is substantial reduction in risk compared with the least-squares estimator.

Compared with the traditional metal square cabin, the new type square cabin makes a good performance on lightweight and can also improve the stiffness of the structure. Both the static and dynamic analysis results which tested under the condition of general standard show that: the new type cabin which made by aluminum foam sandwich composite panels can reach the purpose of light weight design and also can improve the stiffness of the structure. What is more, optimum design is used on the dimension parameter to enhance the property of the square cabin.

Aiming at the vibration characteristics of cylindrical shell, the different cases of cylindrical shell are analyzed through FEM, and the cases are determined according to the circular angle. The free modality results show that with the same dimension of shell, the modal shape of cases are similar to each other, the frequency increased with the increase of circular angle, but for circular angle (say 90°), the increase trend becomes lower as the frequency difference ratio is lower. In excited vibration analysis, there is a relationship between acceleration peak value and circular angle, which is illustrated by a non-dimension parameter.
