Revealing the Patterns of Sequence Organization on Blackpink Interview at Zach Sang Show

Intentionally or not, a conversation between two people or more is a common thing around us. This research will discuss the patterns of sequence organization in the conversation using the qualitative method. The data in this research were words, phrases, sentences in the form of spoken language taken from Youtube entitled "Blackpink Talks 'Kill This Love', Coachella & How They Formed" which premiered on April 17, 2019. The research findings describe the patterns of sequence organization in conversation which consist of adjacency pairs, preference organization, sequence expansion, repair, and topic management. From 1 There were 9 responses from SPP that showed preferred and 8 others indicated dispreferred and 4 repair sessions where all were initiated by other speakers. In addition, which only 1 denotes pre-expansion, 6 denotes insert expansion, and one more denotes post expansion. From the patterns formed in the conversation, finally FPP can bring the flow of the conversation and produce 8 topics FPP begins the conversation by asking about Blackpink performance at Coachella, then interspersed by discussing each member’s life, how their initial meeting, what is their motivation, and talking about songs and choreography.

Summary:This paper looks at uses and pragmatic functions of five hypothetic clauses used parenthetically in Late Latin to soften the illocutionary force of potentially face-threatening acts such as orders and requests. Specifically, the data show that these politeness markers typically mitigate a very specific type of interactional move, i.e., meta-textual proposals with topic-management, turn-yielding, and discourseorganizational concerns. Moreover, the corpus-based study has revealed that they are found above all in Augustine’s philosophical dialogues. Evidence from earlier research has shown, on the other hand, that in Classical Latin si placet was used almost exclusively in Cicero’s philosophical dialogues: this suggests a process of imitation within a very specific discourse tradition, where these markers are perceived as a stylistic feature typical of urbane conversations among educated friends.

The Influence of Topic Management on the Speaking Ability of Iranian Intermediate EFL Learners

In English as a Foreign Language (EFL) settings where English is not the spoken language, Topic Management has been recognised as one of the factors that influence the speaking ability of learners (Du-Babcock, 1999). In Iran, many intermediate EFL learners find it very difficult to manage the speech aspect of the English language. The present study examines the influence of Topic Management on the speaking ability of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. It provides useful insights on teaching speaking skills through Topic Management to improve the speaking ability of learners. In this study, quasi-experimental design was used. 40 intermediate learners were selected and divided into two groups, the Control Group and the Experimental Group. Three tests were administered to obtain data from the participants. These were a proficiency test to check the English proficiency level of the participants, a speaking pre-test to check their speaking ability before the treatment, and a speaking post-test to check their speaking ability after the treatment. The results indicate that Topic Management has an influence on the speaking ability of Iranian EFL learners. That is, the more the student is confident in managing the topic the more he/she is able to sustain the conversation. The study concludes that Topic Management can be a facilitative approach to improving Iranian intermediate EFL learners’ speaking ability.

Courtroom Questioning Adapted to Institutional Power

This paper focuses on analyzing courtroom questioning as a dynamic process of adaptation to the institutional power by recourse to intimidation and topic management. Institutional power is the important factor which motivates the questioners’ linguistic choice. By adapting their questioning to the institutional power, questioners can succeed in bringing the defendant, especially the hardened criminals, under their control so that their authority as institutional representatives will be maintained, which is essential to ensure the solemnity and effectiveness of courtroom trial.
