AbstractThe problem of optimal reactive power dispatch (ORPD) is one of the most popular and widely discussed problem in power system engineering all over the world. Optimal reactive power dispatch is one of the sub-problems of the optimal power flow which is complex and nonlinear problem, which can be formulated as both single- and multi-objective. In this paper, the problem has been formulated as a single-objective problem to minimize the active power losses in the transmission lines. A recently proposed powerful and reliable meta-heuristic algorithm known as the JAYA algorithm has been applied to solve the ORPD problem. The algorithm has been applied on the standard IEEE 14, 30, 57 and 118 bus systems. The simulation results using the proposed algorithm when compared with the results from other algorithms and few others reported in the literature prove that the JAYA algorithm is the most superior among all.

The present study was carried out to study the emotional intelligence of Electrical Engineering students in Dire Dawa University Ethiopia. The sample for the study was 90 (30 Industrial control engineering streams, 30 Power system engineering streams, and 30 Communication engineering streams) randomly selected from Dire Dawa university, school of electrical and computer engineering. A sample scale was employed for the data collection and a t-test was employed for the analysis of data. The outcome of the study shows that Industrial control engineering and Power system engineering students do not differ significantly on various dimensions of Emotional intelligence and Industrial control engineering and Communication engineering students do not differ significantly on various dimensions of Emotional intelligence and Power system engineering and Communication engineering students differ significantly on various dimensions of Emotional intelligence.

This paper presents a study of the Power Systems Protection (PSP) course in the Electrical Engineering programs offered in Brazil. The course offered to the undergraduate students has great importance for the future professional of Power System Engineering and should consider aspects to ensure that the future professionals have the necessary skills to carry out the craft of the profession. Initially, the importance of the PSP theme is presented through a compilation of local data (Brazil) regarding the Brazilian Interconnected Electrical System and its impacts on the operation and issues as failures and accidents. The article continues briefly describing the Electrical Engineering programs in Brazil, with current and historical data on Engineering and specifically Electrical Engineering, comparing them with other programs. The official number of Electrical Engineering programs of public and private educational institutions in Brazil and the number of programs that the course is mandatory or optional is also compared. Following, it is presented the characteristics and common subjects addressed in the course syllabus in the different best Brazilian educational institutions according to the Brazilian Institute of Studies and Research (INEP). Finally, the paper is concluded presenting a discussion about the necessity of maintain, increase or decrease the offer of this particular course and the necessity of update its syllabus.
