In the past decades, due to the popularity of cloning open-source software, 1-day vulnerabilities are prevalent among cyber-physical devices. Detection tools for 1-day vulnerabilities effectively protect users who fail to adopt 1-day vulnerability patches in time. However, manufacturers can non-standardly build the binaries from customized source codes to multiple architectures. The code variants in the downstream binaries decrease the accuracy of 1-day vulnerability detections, especially when signatures of out-of-bounds vulnerabilities contain incomplete information of vulnerabilities and patches. Motivated by the above observations, in this paper, we propose P1OVD, an effective patch-based 1-day out-of-bounds vulnerability detection tool for downstream binaries. P1OVD first generates signatures containing patch information and vulnerability root cause information. Then, P1OVD uses an accurate and robust matching algorithm to scan target binaries. We have evaluated P1OVD on 104 different versions of 30 out-of-bounds vulnerable functions and 620 target binaries in six different compilation environments. The results show that P1OVD achieved an accuracy of 83.06%. Compared to the widely used patch-level vulnerability detection tool ReDeBug, P1OVD ignores 4.07 unnecessary lines on average. The experiments on the x86_64 platform and the O0 optimization show that P1OVD increases the accuracy of the state-of-the-art tool, BinXray, by 8.74%. Besides, it can analyze a single binary in 4 s after a 20-s offline signature extraction on average.

AbstractWe developed a three-step matching algorithm to enhance the between-group comparability for comparative drug effect studies involving prevalent new-users of the newer study drug versus older comparator drug(s). The three-step matching scheme is to match on: (1) index date of initiating the newer study drug to align the cohort entry time between study groups, (2) medication possession ratio measures that consider prior exposure to all older comparator drugs, and (3) propensity scores estimated from potential confounders. Our approach is illustrated with a comparative cardiovascular safety study of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist (GLP-1ra) versus sulfonylurea (SU) in type 2 diabetes patients using Taiwan’s National Health Insurance Research Database 2003–2015. 66% of 3195 GLP-1ra users had previously exposed to SU. The between-group comparability was well-achieved after implementing the matching algorithm (i.e., standardized mean difference < 0.2 for all baseline patient characteristics). Compared to SU, the use of GLP-1ra yielded a significantly reduced risk of the primary composite cardiovascular events (hazard ratio [95% confidence interval]: 0.71 [0.54–0.95], p = 0.022). Our matching scheme can enhance the between-group comparability in prevalent new-user cohort designs to minimize time-related bias, improve confounder adjustment, and ensure the reliability and validity of study findings.

Establishing an effective local feature descriptor and using an accurate key point matching algorithm are two crucial tasks in recognizing and registering on the 3D point cloud. Because the descriptors need to keep enough descriptive ability against the effect of noise, occlusion, and incomplete regions in the point cloud, a suitable key point matching algorithm can get more precise matched pairs. To obtain an effective descriptor, this paper proposes a Multi-Statistics Histogram Descriptor (MSHD) that combines spatial distribution and geometric attributes features. Furthermore, based on deep learning, we developed a new key point matching algorithm that could identify more corresponding point pairs than the existing methods. Our method is evaluated based on Stanford 3D dataset and four real component point cloud dataset from the train bottom. The experimental results demonstrate the superiority of MSHD because its descriptive ability and robustness to noise and mesh resolution are greater than those of carefully selected baselines (e.g., FPFH, SHOT, RoPS, and SpinImage descriptors). Importantly, it has been confirmed that the error of rotation and translation matrix is much smaller based on our key point matching algorithm, and the precise corresponding point pairs can be captured, resulting in enhanced recognition and registration for three-dimensional surface matching.

This paper proposes a new hybrid method between the learning-based and handcrafted methods for a stereo matching algorithm. The main purpose of the stereo matching algorithm is to produce a disparity map. This map is essential for many applications, including three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction. The raw disparity map computed by a convolutional neural network (CNN) is still prone to errors in the low texture region. The algorithm is set to improve the matching cost computation stage with hybrid CNN-based combined with truncated directional intensity computation. The difference in truncated directional intensity value is employed to decrease radiometric errors. The proposed method’s raw matching cost went through the cost aggregation step using the bilateral filter (BF) to improve accuracy. The winner-take-all (WTA) optimization uses the aggregated cost volume to produce an initial disparity map. Finally, a series of refinement processes enhance the initial disparity map for a more accurate final disparity map. This paper verified the performance of the algorithm using the Middlebury online stereo benchmarking system. The proposed algorithm achieves the objective of generating a more accurate and smooth disparity map with different depths at low texture regions through better matching cost quality.
