Flexibility and in particular volume flexibility is an important topic for industrial manufacturing companies. In this context, the harmonization of the available and required capacity is a central task, especially with increasing fluctuations in customer demand. In classical approaches, this is considered only by the use of additional capacities and there are only a few approaches that combine aspects of personnel planning with production planning. Therefore, this article presents a linear optimization model for master production scheduling that includes aspects of personnel requirements planning. It is used to investigate different strategies for the use of overtime and temporary workers in order to achieve different levels of volume flexibility. With regard to the monetary and social impacts, the results indicate that overtime has a stronger influence to achieve volume flexibility than the use of temporary workers. However, both are affected by substantial deficits in human working conditions. But the results also imply a promising potential for improving the social aspects without a significant increase in costs.

PT. CJ Feed Medan is a engaged in the animal feed industry. The purpose of this study is to determine the amount of GM-1C feed production from the forecasting of the number of sales of animal feed products of the previous type. And to plan raw material inventory for production of GM-1C animal feed with Material Requirement Planning method. Forecasting is a process to estimate the level of some future needs that include the needs in quantity size, quality, time and location required in order to meet the demand for goods or services. Material Requirement Planning is a logical procedure, decision rule and computerized records engineering designed to translate master production schedules or MPS (Master Production Scheduling) into Net Requirements for all items or components. From good sales data forecasting method is cyclical method because it has the smallest SEE value. So it can be estimated sales of the last 10 days in October 2017 as much as 70782, 70143, 69266, 68210, 67049, 65860, 64725, 63720, 62915 and 62365. The last process to get data on raw material needs is the making of MRP report. This report is a comprehensive report of the raw material requirements for GM-1C products.

The objective of this research is to develop a Master Production Scheduling (MPS) model to maximize the total profit using Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP). The model is solved using both MILP with the Xpress software and genetic algorithms with the Evolver solver. The model is built for Evolver in MS Excel. Results of both solving tools are compared to analyze the performance of each of them. The accuracy and capability of the model to solve the MPS problems have been verified through the discussion of its results logicality for different cases of different patterns.
