In this study, the dynamics and stability of a flexible rotor containing liquid in a constant thermal environment are investigated. According to thermoelastic theory, the thermal axial force exerted on the rotor is calculated by using the analytical method. A spinning Rayleigh beam is used as a simplified model of the rotor. Applying the Hamilton principle, the governing equation of motion for the flexible liquid-filled rotor system is derived. Using the obtained model, the stability prediction model and the critical spinning speed for the rotor system are formulated. To demonstrate the validity of the developed model, the present analysis is compared with the results reported in the previous study, and good agreement is observed from the comparison results. Finally, numerical results based on the obtained model are performed for a better understanding of the parameters including filling parameters, mode number, rotatory inertia and thermal effect on the stability, and critical spinning speed of the rotor system.

AbstractIn this paper, the Rayleigh beam system with two dynamical boundary controls is treated. Theoretically, the well-posedness of the weak solution is obtained. Later, we discretize the system by using the Implicit Euler scheme in time and the $$P^3$$ P 3 Hermite finite element in space. In addition, we show the decay of the discrete energy and we establish some a priori error estimates. Finally, some numerical simulations are presented.

In this paper, the flexural analysis of a simply supported damped Rayleigh beam subjected to distributed loads and with damping due to resistance to the transverse displacement resting on elastic foundation is obtained. The characteristics of the beam are assumed uniform over the beam length while the foundation is considered of Winkler type. In order to evaluate the vibration characteristics of the dynamical system, the Fourier sine integral transformation in conjunction with the asymptotic method of Struble is used to solve the governing equations for the transversal vibrations in the beam structure induced by moving load. The effect of prestress and other structural parameters were considered. Numerical results show that the structural parameters have significant influence on the behaviour of the dynamical system.
