Director David Wagner says Trade Queen ‘was never intended to be a period film’. However, the suitability of black-and-white 35 mm for the story points to the inflection between markers of analogue and digital registration as one that also codes the boundary between queer and straight experience. This article argues that while Trade Queen is tagged as a film without dialogue, the use of sound design and music in the film is critical to a narrative told aurally as well as visually. Furthermore, it is the use of sound in this film – which ends with vinyl interference – that articulates the tension between analogue and digital, and between heteronormative and queer experience. In punchlines, the synthesized reverb of Ruby Treasure’s score, and in interiors heard from the gated picket fence, we hear as well as see the transitions between public and private selves.

Background: Equine sarcoid is a rare equine skin tumour seen in any age group of horses, usually in younger horses. Grossly, it appears as multinodular masses which may or may not ulcerate and pink to greyish white coloured. It was suggested that the papilloma virus is a causative organism along with predisposing factors like skin abrasions and wounds. The definitive diagnosis is based on histopathology and classified according to their gross appearance and clinical behavior. To find out the origin and proliferative nature, histochemical and immunohistochemical study was performed. The present communication reflects various patterns of sarcoid on histopathological examination and it was confirmed by histochemistry and immunohistochemistry. Methods: A four-year-old bay colt was presented to the Madras Veterinary College Teaching Hospital with nodular masses on the buccal cavity. Fine needle aspiration biopsy (FNAB), blood, serum and tumour biopsy materials were collected under local anesthesia. The collected samples were subjected to Leishman-Giemsa staining, haematological and biochemical analysis, histopathology, histochemical and immunohistochemical examination. Result: Histopathologically, there was mucosal hyperplasia and hyperkeratosis. The neoplastic cells were arranged as storiform or whorl-like pattern. Also, there was perpendicular orientation of fibroblasts towards the basement membrane (picket fence) at the dermo-epidermal junction, which was considered as characteristic feature of sarcoid. Histochemical examination with Picrosirius red revealed strong positivity characterised by deep red coloured mature collagen fibres. Immunohistochemically, the hyperplastic epithelial cells were positive for pan cytokeratin and fibroblast cells were strongly positive for vimentin. Based on the histopathology, histochemistry and immunohistochemistry, the condition was diagnosed as sarcoid which is rare in horses.

The lateral dynamics of lipids on the cellular membranes are one of the most challenging topics to study in membrane biophysics, needing simultaneously high spatial and temporal resolution. In this study, we have employed Interferometric scattering Microscopy (ISCAT) to explore the dynamics of a biotinylated lipid analogue labelled with streptavidin-coated gold nanoparticles (20 and 40nm in diameter) at 2kHz sampling rate. We developed a statistics-driven analysis pipeline to analyse both ensemble average and single trajectory Mean Squared Displacements from each dataset, and to discern the most likely diffusion mode. We found that the use of larger tags slows down the target motion without affecting the diffusion mode. Moreover, we determined from our statistical analysis that the prevalent diffusion mode of the tracked gold-labelled lipids is compartmentalized diffusion. This model describes the motion of particles diffusing on a corralled surface, with a certain probability of changing compartment. This is compatible with the picket-fence model of membrane structure, already observed by similar studies. Through our analysis, we could determine significant physical parameters, such as average compartment size, dynamic localization uncertainty, and the intra- and inter-compartmental diffusion rates. We then simulated diffusion in an environment compatible with the experimentally-derived parameters and model. The closeness of the results from the analysis of experimental and simulated trajectories validates our analysis and the proposed description of the cell membrane. Finally, we introduce the confinement strength metric to compare diffusivity measurements across techniques and experimental conditions, which we used to successfully compare the present results with other related studies.

Despite the increasing legalization trend, same-sex marriage remains inaccessible to couples in most countries. Such exclusions, however, can be circumvented by migrants who, in the process, also negotiate diverse and even divergent meanings of marriage embedded in different socio-institutional contexts. This study examines such diverse meanings of marriage among LGB transnational migrants based on biographic narrative interviews with nine individuals married to same-sex partners in Belgium and the Netherlands and coming from Central and Eastern European countries with constitutional protection of heterosexual marriage. The study highlights the negotiations of intimate relationships in the context of the new institutional opportunity of marriage and stresses how the similarities between migrants and non-migrants testify to the strengthening of same-sex marriage as a social institution. Focusing further on migrants' unique experiences of marriage in divergent socio-institutional contexts, this study also shows how same-sex marriage empowers LGB migrants even where it is (still) not available.

Abstract BACKGROUND Blister aneurysms are rare, technically challenging lesions that are typically ill defined and arise at nonbranch points of arteries. OBJECTIVE To describe the microsurgical treatment of a ruptured blister aneurysm at the internal carotid artery (ICA) terminus using the reverse picket fence clipping technique. METHODS The patient was a 60-yr-old male. He presented with a Hunt and Hess Grade 2, Fisher Grade 3 subarachnoid hemorrhage located in the bilateral sylvian fissures (right > left) and suprasellar cisterns. Computed tomography angiography demonstrated 2 aneurysms: a 2-mm right middle cerebral artery (MCA) aneurysm and a 2.5-mm right internal carotid artery (ICA) terminus blister aneurysm. Transradial cerebral angiography was undertaken which showed these similar sized aneurysms. Microsurgical treatment was chosen, and the patient underwent a right pterional craniotomy for clipping of his aneurysms. The patient consented to the procedure. RESULTS The combination of stacked fenestrated clips repaired the vessel, with intraoperative fluorescein and indocyanine green angiography demonstrated normal filling of the MCA and ICA circulation with no delay. Intraoperative angiography confirmed induced moderate stenosis of the ICA terminus at about 50%, which is essential to close the blister aneurysm site by utilizing a portion of the normal vessel wall. CONCLUSION Ruptured blister aneurysms at the ICA terminus can be safely repaired using the reverse picket fence technique for clipping.

Traditional ‘picket fence’ porphyrin systems have been a topic of interest for their capacity to direct steric shielding effects selectively to one side of the macrocycle. Sterically overcrowded porphyrin systems that adopt macrocycle deformations have recently drawn attention for their applications in organocatalysis and sensing. Here we explore the combined benefits of nonplanar porphyrins and the old molecular design to bring new concepts to the playing field. The challenging ortho-positions of meso-phenyl residues dodecasubstituted porphyrin systems led us to transition to less hindered para- and meta-sites and develop selective demethylation based on the steric interplay. Isolation of the symmetrical target compound [2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(3,5-dipivaloyloxyphenyl)porphyrin] was investigated under two synthetic pathways. The obtained insight was used to isolate unsymmetrical [2,3,7,8,12,13,17,18-octaethyl-5,10,15,20-tetrakis(2-nitro-5-pivaloyloxyphenyl)porphyrin]. Upon separation of the atropisomers, a detailed single-crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis highlighted intrinsic intermolecular interactions. The nonplanarity of these systems in combination with ‘picket fence’ motifs provides an important feature in the design of supramolecular ensembles.<br>
