We study the representation theory of non-admissible simple affine vertex algebra [Formula: see text]. We determine an explicit formula for the singular vector of conformal weight four in the universal affine vertex algebra [Formula: see text], and show that it generates the maximal ideal in [Formula: see text]. We classify irreducible [Formula: see text]-modules in the category [Formula: see text], and determine the fusion rules between irreducible modules in the category of ordinary modules [Formula: see text]. It turns out that this fusion algebra is isomorphic to the fusion algebra of [Formula: see text]. We also prove that [Formula: see text] is a semi-simple, rigid braided tensor category. In our proofs, we use the notion of collapsing level for the affine [Formula: see text]-algebra, and the properties of conformal embedding [Formula: see text] at level [Formula: see text] from D. Adamovic et al. [Finite vs infinite decompositions in conformal embeddings, Comm. Math. Phys. 348 (2016) 445–473.]. We show that [Formula: see text] is a collapsing level with respect to the subregular nilpotent element [Formula: see text], meaning that the simple quotient of the affine [Formula: see text]-algebra [Formula: see text] is isomorphic to the Heisenberg vertex algebra [Formula: see text]. We prove certain results on vanishing and non-vanishing of cohomology for the quantum Hamiltonian reduction functor [Formula: see text]. It turns out that the properties of [Formula: see text] are more subtle than in the case of minimal reduction.

Abstract We prove an explicit formula for the total Chern character of the Verlinde bundle of conformal blocks over \overline{\mathcal{M}}_{g,n} in terms of tautological classes. The Chern characters of the Verlinde bundles define a semisimple CohFT (the ranks, given by the Verlinde formula, determine a semisimple fusion algebra). According to Teleman’s classification of semisimple CohFTs, there exists an element of Givental’s group transforming the fusion algebra into the CohFT. We determine the element using the first Chern class of the Verlinde bundle on the interior {\mathcal{M}}_{g,n} and the projective flatness of the Hitchin connection.

Given a finite index subfactor, we show that the affine morphisms at zero level in the affine category over the planar algebra associated to the subfactor is isomorphic to the fusion algebra of the subfactor as a $*$-algebra. This identification paves the way to analyze the structure of affine $P$-modules with weight zero for any subfactor planar algebra $P$ (possibly having infinite depth). Further, for irreducible depth two subfactor planar algebras, we establish an additive equivalence between the category of affine $P$-modules and the center of the category of $N$-$N$-bimodules generated by $L^2(M)$; this partially verifies a conjecture of Jones and Walker.

In recent joint work with Jones and Shlyakhtenko, we have given a diagrammatic description of Popa's symmetric enveloping inclusion for planar algebra subfactors. In this paper, we give a diagrammatic construction of the associated Jones tower, in the case that the planar algebra is finite-depth. We then use this construction to describe the planar algebra of the symmetric enveloping inclusion, which is known to be isomorphic to the planar algebra of Ocneanu's asymptotic inclusion by a result of Popa. As an application we give a planar algebraic computation of the (reduced) fusion algebra of the asymptotic inclusion, recovering some well-known results of Ocneanu and Evans–Kawahigashi.
