In this paper, we present some important approximation properties of Chebyshev polynomials in the Legendre norm. We mainly discuss the Chebyshev interpolation operator at the Chebyshev–Gauss–Lobatto points. The cases of single domain and multidomain for both one dimension and multi-dimensions are considered, respectively. The approximation results in Legendre norm rather than in the Chebyshev weighted norm are given, which play a fundamental role in numerical analysis of the Legendre–Chebyshev spectral method. These results are also useful in Clenshaw–Curtis quadrature which is based on sampling the integrand at Chebyshev points.

We study some spectral and numerical properties of the solutions to a thermoelastic problem with double porosity. The model includes Cattaneo-type evolution law for the heat flux to remove the physical paradox of infinite propagation speed of the classical Fourier’s law. Firstly, we prove that the operator determined by the considered problem has compact resolvent and generates a C 0 -semigroup in an appropriate Hilbert space. We also show that there is a sequence of generalized eigenfunctions of the linear operator that forms a Riesz basis. By a detailed spectral analysis, we obtain the expressions of the spectrum and we deduce that the spectrum determined growth condition holds. Therefore we prove that the energy of the considered problem decays exponentially to a rate determined explicitly by the physical parameters. Finally, some numerical simulations based on Chebyshev spectral method for spatial discretization are given to confirm the exponential stability result and to show the distribution of the eigenvalues and the variables of the problem.

Abstract This paper deals with a class of Bratu’s type, Troesch’s and nonlocal elliptic boundary value problems. Due to strong nonlinearity and presence of parameter δ, it is very difficult to solve these problems. Here we solve these classes of important equations using the Chebyshev spectral collocation method. We have provided the convergence of the proposed approximate method. The trueness of the method is shown by applying it to some illustrative examples. Results are compared with some known methods to highlight its neglectable error and high accuracy.

In this work, we propose a new method for solving Volterra integral equations. The technique is based on the Chebyshev spectral collocation method. The application of the proposed method leads Volterra integral equation to a system of algebraic equations that are easy to solve. Some examples are presented and compared with some methods in the literature to illustrate the ability of this technique. The results demonstrate that the new method is more efficient, convergent, and accurate to the exact solution.
