A heteronuclear cobalt(III)/potassium complex, [(L1)2Co2K(L2)2], {Where, H2L1 = N,N-bis(3-ethoxysalicylidene)2,2-dimethyl-1,3-propanediamine and HL2 = 3-ethoxysalicylaldehyde}, has been synthesized and characterized by several analytical techniques including single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The energetic...

Here we report a case of a 55-year-old male who had presented with recent falls and behavioral changes, including a heightened religious preoccupation, hypergraphia, and paranoid ideations. He was initially treated for psychosis but soon exhibited absence-like seizures, which were consistent with faciobrachial dystonic seizures. Workup for underlying infectious, immunodeficiency, and autoimmune causes revealed antibodies towards the leucine-rich glioma inactivated subunit of the voltage-gated potassium complex. The patient was treated with steroids and intravenous immune globulin with symptomatic relief. In retrospect, the patient met criteria for Gastaut-Geschwind (GG) syndrome, with notable features of hypergraphia and hyperreligiosity. This case illustrates how the GG syndromal pattern contributes to the suspicion of autoimmune limbic encephalitis and may expedite diagnosis and prevent the accumulation of disability.

The reaction of CoII(TpivPP) {TpivPP is the dianion of 5,10,15,20-tetrakis[2-(2,2-dimethylpropanamido)phenyl]porphyrin} with an excess of KCN salts and an excess of the 18-crown-6 in chlorobenzene leads to the polymeric title compoundcatena-poly[[dicyanido-2κ2C-(1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane-1κ6O){μ3-(2α,2β)-5,10,15,20-tetrakis[2-(2,2-dimethylpropanamido)phenyl]porphyrinato-1κO5:2κ4N,N′,N′′,N′′′:1′κO15}cobalt(III)potassium] dihydrate], {[CoK(CN)2(C12H24O6)(C64H64N8O4]·2H2O}n. The CoIIIion lies on an inversion center, and the asymmetric unit contains one half of a [CoIII(2α,2β-TpivPP)(CN)2]−ion complex and one half of a [K(18-C-6]+counter-ion (18-C-6 is 1,4,7,10,13,16-hexaoxacyclooctadecane), where the KIion lies on an inversion center. The CoIIIion is hexacoordinated by two C-bonded axial cyanide ligands and the four pyrrole N atoms of the porphyrin ligand. The KIion is chelated by the six O atoms of the 18-crown-6 molecule and is further coordinated by two O atoms of pivalamido groups of the porphyrin ligands, leading to the formation of polymeric chains running along [011]. In the crystal, the polymeric chains and the lattice water molecules are linked by N—H...O and O—H...N hydrogen bonds, as well as weak C—H...O, O—H...π and C—H...π interactions into a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture.

A sandwich compound of cyclooctatetraendiyl (COT)2− samarium-potassium was synthesized and analyzed using a flexible calix[4]arene dianion. This compound, [p-tBu-calix[4]-(OMe)2(O)2]arenediyl-samarium-(η8-cyclooctatetraendiyl)-potassium (tetrahydrofurane)3, is constructed as a linear sequence L-Sm--K-, where L, , and are specific ligands with L = O,O-dimethyl-calix[4]arene2−, = cyclo-octatetraendiyl, and = tetrahydrofurane templates.
