Blood exosomes and microvesicles, collectively known as small extracellular vesicles (sEV), are vesicles about 100-150 nm in size. Small EV are involved in various aspects of signaling in the body; in addition, they can serve as markers of various pathologies. For biochemical studies, vesicle solubilization is often required. We tested the ability of various detergents to dissolve membranes of the sEV. Small EV were isolated from the blood serum of healthy volunteers by gel filtration on Sepharose CL-2B and tried to solubilize them using the anionic detergent DOC (sodium deoxycholate), non-ionic detergent Brij 35 (polyoxyethyleneglycol dodecyl ether), zwitterionic detergent CHAPS (3 - [(3-chloramidopropyl) dimethylammonio] -1-propanesulfonate), and cationic detergent CTAB (cetyl trimethylammonium bromide). The concentration of sEV in the solution was determined by dynamic light scattering. We find DOC is the most effective for sEV solubilization.

Avoided level-crossing muon spin resonance (ALC-μSR) has been used to study the dynamics and local environment of spin probes formed by muonium (Mu) addition to 2-phenylethanol (PEA) and limonene (1-methyl-4-(1-methylethenyl)-cyclohexene) in an aqueous dispersion of the nonionic surfactant C12E4 (tetra(ethylene glycol) n-dodecyl ether).

Abstract The critical thickness (hcr) for foam films of n-dodecyl β-D maltoside (C12G2) and of its mixed solutions with dodecanol (C12Е0), hexaethyleneglycol dodecyl ether (C12E6) and dodecyl trimethylammonium bromide (C12TAB) of different molar ratio (50:1; 1:1;1:50) at low and high ionic strength was measured interferometrically. It was found that the hcr increases with the increase of the film radius independently of solutions composition. At low ionic strength the type of surfactant affects the critical thickness and the equilibrium state of the film. hcr for the films of mixture with C12E0 increases with the increase of the total surfactant concentration, while hcr for the films of mixture with C12TAB decreases. For the values of the critical thicknesses for films from individual surfactant solutions the following sequence hcr (C12TAB) > hcr (C12E6) > hcr (C12G2) is found. At high ionic strength the quantity of nonionic additive does not substantially affect the value of hcr, while the quantity of ionic additive influences it by two different ways (i) in 50:1 mixture C12TAB supports C12G2 in the reducing of negative charge; (ii) in 1:1 mixture C12TAB recharges the film surfaces.

Iron phosphate was prepared from iron nitrate and phosphoric acid with a surfactant, pentaethylene glycol mono dodecyl ether. The chemical composition of the obtained samples was estimated from ICP and XRD measurements. Particle shape and size distribution were observed by SEM images and laser diffraction / scattering methods. Further, the catalytic activity was studied with the decomposition of the complex between formaldehyde, ammonium acetate, and acetylacetone. The peaks of FePO4 were observed in XRD patterns of samples prepared in Fe/Ce=10/0 and then heated at 600 ºC. Other samples were amorphous in XRD patterns. Iron-cerium phosphates had high catalytic activity for the decomposition of the complex.
