Iron phosphate was prepared from iron nitrate and phosphoric acid with a surfactant, pentaethylene glycol mono dodecyl ether. The chemical composition of the obtained samples was estimated from ICP and XRD measurements. Particle shape and size distribution were observed by SEM images and laser diffraction / scattering methods. Further, the catalytic activity was studied with the decomposition of the complex between formaldehyde, ammonium acetate, and acetylacetone. The peaks of FePO4 were observed in XRD patterns of samples prepared in Fe/Ce=10/0 and then heated at 600 ºC. Other samples were amorphous in XRD patterns. Iron-cerium phosphates had high catalytic activity for the decomposition of the complex.

The catalytic properties of nano-TiO2 modified fabric suits the demand for self-cleaning in recent years. In this paper, advanced and innovative technology were used to synthesize water sol of titanium dioxide photocatalyst with high catalytic activity for fabric finishing. The wear behavior, antibacterial property and water repellency of treated and untreated fabric were tested. Results indicate that finishing and washing of the titanium dioxide had no effect on wear behavior; finished and washed fabric has a certain antibacterial and water repellent properties.

Novel tetracarboxyl-functionalized 2,2′-biimidazolium-based ionic liquids (ILs) with different anions were synthesized in two steps from readily available and sustainable starting materials including ammonium acetate, glyoxal, and halogenated propionic acid. The functionalized IL exhibited higher catalytic activity towards the cycloaddition of CO2 to terminal epoxides. With propylene oxide as a substrate, the optimum yield of propylene carbonate reached 82.7 % at an initial CO2 pressure of 2.0 MPa for 4 h at 140°C. Moreover, the functionalized IL catalyst displayed a high stability and can be reused for at least five cycles without obvious loss of catalytic activity. The results provide a simple and economical way to synthesize multi-functionalized imidazolium-based ILs with versatile potential applications.

Au NPs were generated via in situ reduction on copolymer brush P(OEGMA-co-MQ) functionalized GO. MQ units in the brushes as capping agents could stabilize the Au NPs. The Au NPs–GO hybrid exhibited high catalytic activity for the reduction of 4-NP.

AbstractWe have successfully developed thin foils of boron-free Ni3Al (below 100 μm in thickness) by cold rolling, and recently found that the foils exhibit high catalytic activity for methanol decomposition. A little has been known about catalytic activity in Ni3Al. Even more interestingly, the high catalytic activity appears on flat foils whose surface area is very low. This paper provides a review of the characteristic features of the catalytic properties investigated in my group. Methanol was effectively decomposed into H2 and CO over the foils above 713 K. The production rates of H2 and CO increased with an increase of time during the initial period of reaction, indicating that the Ni3Al foils were spontaneously activated under the reaction conditions. Surface analyses revealed that fine Ni particles dispersed on carbon nanofibers formed on the foils during the reaction. The high catalytic performance of the foils can be attributed to the spontaneous formation of this nanostructure during the reaction.

Catalytic hydrodechlorination (HDC) is an innovative means of transforming chlorinated waste streams into a recyclable product. Hydrodehalogenation of 4-tert-butyl-1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene over Raney nickel catalyst has been investigated. The influence of different parameters, such as reaction solution, bases type, temperature and pressure are explored. Using Raney nickel as catalyst, methanol and water (v: v=4:1) as the reaction solution, ammonium acetate as the addictive, the ratio of ammonium acetate and 4-tert-butyl-1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene is 1:1, temperature 140 °C and pressure 3.0 Mpa, the highest efficiency can be achieved on hydride-chlorination of 4-tert-butyl-1-chloro-2-nitrobenzene. We find that a rather high catalytic activity can be retained by adding water.
