The possibility of increasing the complex of physical, mechanical and operational properties of plasma sprayed coatings from powders of the PG-19M-01 and PRH18N9 grades due to the electric pulse effect on the heterophase high-temperature flow during spraying and next surface plastic deformation of the deposited coatings by shot blasting has been investigated. It is shown that shot blasting provides the formation of a hardening layer with a thickness of up to 180...200 μm, while the maximum level of microhardness is observed at a depth of about 60 μm. The microhardness of the coating from PG-19M-01 powder at the point of maximum hardening increases by 35%; steel coatings from PR-H18N9 powder – by 48% compared to the state after spraying. Experimental studies of the effect of this treatment on the bond strength and wear resistance of the obtained coatings have been carried out. It is shown that after shot-blasting the bond strength of the coatings decreases by 10...15%, and the wear resistance increases by 32...38%.

AbstractHerein, we analyzed the morphology of atmospheric plasma-sprayed (APS) coating on medical 316L stainless steel and its influence on the physical and electrochemical properties of implant application. Five types of coatings were examined: hydroxyapatite (HAp), titanium (Ti), zirconium (Zr), Ti/HAp and Zr/HAp. The base properties of the coatings were analyzed via chemical and phase composition, surface topography, surface wettability and in particular the corrosion resistance in Ringer solution in immersed conditions and potentiodynamic test, and EIS analysis. APS coating of pure HAp on 316L stainless steel showed poor cohesive bonding to the substrate material, whereas the application of Ti and Zr interlayer prior to HAp deposition improved surface morphology and coating properties. The beneficial effect of Ti and Zr interlayer under HAp layer on binding was demonstrated. HAp containing coatings (HAp, Ti/HAp and Zr/HAp) show Ca/P ratio greater than 1.8, which may positively influence the differentiation of osteogenic cells and good adhesion to bones. Among the studied materials, the composite coatings with Zr or Zr/HAp showed favorable physicochemical properties and the highest corrosion resistance in Ringer solution.

Abstract The porous architecture of coatings has a significant influence on the coating performances and thus should be properly designed for the intended applications. For simulating the coating properties, it is necessary to determine the numerical representation of the coating microstructure. In this study, YSZ coatings were manufactured by suspension plasma spray (SPS). Afterwards, the porous architecture of as-prepared coatings was investigated by the combination of three techniques, imaging analysis, Ultra Small Angle X-ray Scattering (USAXS), and X-ray transmission. A microstructural model for reconstructing the porous architecture of the SPS coating was subsequently computed according to the collected experimental results. Finally, the coating thermal properties were simulated based on the model and were compared with the experimental results.
