Abstract We investigate the evolution equation for the average vortex length per unit volume L of superfluid turbulence in inhomogeneous flows. Inhomogeneities in line density L andincounterflowvelocity V may contribute to vortex diffusion, vortex formation and vortex destruction. We explore two different families of contributions: those arising from asecondorder expansionofthe Vinenequationitself, andthose whichare notrelated to the original Vinen equation but must be stated by adding to it second-order terms obtained from dimensional analysis or other physical arguments.

The design and manufacture of an innovative pump conceived based on vortex diffusion is described in this paper. The authors believe the pump has the potential of achieving higher efficiency gains than those currently available. A prototype was, therefore, manufactured for laboratory testing and eventual field trials and commercial manufacture. The success of the concept in achieving the goals, will pave the way towards significant savings in fuel expenditure through lower pumping costs.

Abstract. This paper presents a new type of adjustable mixing equipment, and the internal flow field of the adjustable mixer have been studied by using the model of LES(Large eddy simulation),and the pressure loss, the speed change and vortex scale have been studied. In conclusion, along with blades angle and number increases, the flow resistance increases violently, so the range of blade rotating angle should be controlled within 30 degrees. As the depth of the pipeline velocity is increasingly large, large velocity gradient is contributed to the collisions between the colloidal particles. In pre-mixed, the vortex effect of the pipeline highly enhances the vortex diffusion, and improves the mixing efficiency. The vortex strength will be reinforced and dimension will be reduced, with the vanes cutting the flow, which can help flocculation.

The mixing mechanism of a punched agitator used in solid-liquid suspension system was studied basing on the enstrophy and energy dissipation of the vortex theory. The effects of the configuration parameters on stirring performance were discussed. The results show that efflux from such punched agitator with simple structure can not only strengthen vortex diffusion, but also reduce the power consumption by diminishing the projection area in the direction which the paddles round. Obviously, this is beneficial to lower critical suspension velocity and promote mixing efficiency in stirring tank. It is indicated that the punched agitator owning quite broad application prospects.
