The aim of this study is to determine the optimal combination of process parameters when machining commercially pure titanium grade 2. The unification of Multi objective optimization based on ratio analysis (MOORA) and fuzzy approach has applied to optimize the process parameters. Three process parameters i.e. cutting speed, tool overhang, and microhardness have been varied at three levels each and a total of twenty seven experiments have been conducted based on Taguchi’s L27 design of experiment technique. Cutting force, tool flank wear, and average surface roughness have been considered a machinability indicators to measure the process performance. Feed rate and depth of cut have been kept constant. Successful optimization is done and results show that machining titanium at higher cutting speed (140 m/min) and higher tool overhang length (65 mm) with medium hardness (1934 HV) results in lower cutting force, tool flank wear, and surface roughness. Outcomes of the present work reveal that the hybrid fuzzy-MOORA method is convincing enough to obtain the best process parameter combination for the best machinability while machining titanium type difficult-to-machine materials.

In this study, energy center selection of G7 countries is examined. In this context, firstly, the studies in the literature have been evaluated in detail, and seven different criteria have been determined which may affect this selection. Taking these seven different criteria into consideration, G7 countries are ranked by fuzzy MOORA method according to energy center selection performance. According to the results, Japan and Germany are the most successful countries. On the other hand, it was concluded that France and Italy ranked last in terms of energy center selection performance. Hence, especially the countries in the last rankings should be more careful in selecting energy center. In this framework, the customer potential, the training profiles of the customers, the potential of the company with investment demand, the previous payment performance of these companies, and the market risks should be considered by the energy companies while opening new branches.

Purpose In most developing countries riveting, upset forging and punching operations among others are performed using manual hammering technique. The use of the manual method increases production time and reduces efficiency. The use of the manual approach is predominantly due to the high cost of imported automated hammering machines (AHM) which the majority of the end-users are incapable of acquiring. The purpose of this paper, therefore, is to produce an AHM that is affordable using an effective material selection methodology in the design and fabrication process. Design/methodology/approach The material selection methodology proposed is the fuzzy multi-objective optimisation on the basis of the ratio analysis (MOORA) method. The tool was used to evaluate and determine the optimum material for the major of the components of the AHM from amongst alternative materials while considering several decision criteria. A case study of the shaft was applied to demonstrate the suitability of the proposed technique. The AHM components design is then carried out and machine fabricated and tested to ascertain performance effectiveness. Findings The result of the fuzzy MOORA evaluation showed that alloy steel is the optimal material for the shaft. The fuzzy MOORA approach was compared with the fuzzy Vlsekriterijumska Optimizacija Ikompromisno Resenje (VIKOR) and fuzzy grey relational analysis (GRA) methods to validate the proposed method. The fuzzy MOORA method produces completely the same result with the fuzzy VIKOR and fuzzy GRA methods. The machine was then designed, constructed and tested and found to be effective for the purpose of the design. Originality/value This is significant as no such study has been published by any other researcher to the best of our knowledge in this area.

The aim of this chapter is to measure the service quality of energy companies. Within this context, seven different energy companies that are listed on İstanbul Stock Exchange are considered. For this purpose, five dimensions and 14 criteria are identified by considering the details of SERVQUAL methodology. In the analysis process, fuzzy DEMATEL method is used to weight these dimensions and criteria and the performance of the energy companies are ranked by using fuzzy MOORA approach. The findings show that feedback is the most significant dimension and data security and physical security are the most important criteria. Another important conclusion is that the companies, which have high profitability, have better performance regarding service quality. Thus, it is recommended that the companies should mainly focus on the ways of getting necessary feedback from their customers, such as conducting a survey.
