In this paper, we study the influence of nonabelian superselection rules on the transfer of quantum information with the help of qubits on the base of an algebraic model and formulate quantum protocols. We pay the main attention to the superselection structure of the algebra of observables [Formula: see text] defined by the Cuntz algebra [Formula: see text] (a field algebra) that contains [Formula: see text] as a pointwise fixed subalgebra with respect to the action of the gauge group [Formula: see text]. We prove that it is possible to code information only with the help of states such that projectors on them belong to the algebra of observables. These projectors commute with the elements of the representation of the group [Formula: see text], and therefore allow the recipient to restore the obtained information.

We show that, up to strong cocycle conjugacy, every countable exact group admits a unique equivariantly $\mathcal {O}_{2}$ -absorbing, pointwise outer action on the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal {O}_{2}$ with the quasi-central approximation property (QAP). In particular, we establish the equivariant analogue of the Kirchberg $\mathcal {O}_{2}$ -absorption theorem for these groups.

Abstract We show that the following operator algebras have hyperarithmetic theory: the hyperfinite II$_1$ factor $\mathcal R$, $L(\varGamma )$ for $\varGamma $ a finitely generated group with solvable word problem, $C^*(\varGamma )$ for $\varGamma $ a finitely presented group, $C^*_\lambda (\varGamma )$ for $\varGamma $ a finitely generated group with solvable word problem, $C(2^\omega )$ and $C(\mathbb P)$ (where $\mathbb P$ is the pseudoarc). We also show that the Cuntz algebra $\mathcal O_2$ has a hyperarithmetic theory provided that the Kirchberg embedding problems have affirmative answers. Finally, we prove that if there is an existentially closed (e.c.) II$_1$ factor (resp. $\textrm{C}^*$-algebra) that does not have hyperarithmetic theory, then there are continuum many theories of e.c. II$_1$ factors (resp. e.c. $\textrm{C}^*$-algebras).

Abstract We study the connection between the UCT problem and Cartan subalgebras in C*-algebras. The UCT problem asks whether every separable nuclear C*-algebra satisfies the UCT, i.e., a noncommutative analogue of the classical universal coefficient theorem from algebraic topology. This UCT problem is one of the remaining major open questions in the structure and classification theory of simple nuclear C*-algebras. Since the class of separable nuclear C*-algebras is closed under crossed products by finite groups, it is a natural and important task to understand the behaviour of the UCT under such crossed products. We make a contribution towards a better understanding by showing that for certain approximately inner actions of finite cyclic groups on UCT Kirchberg algebras, the crossed products satisfy the UCT if and only if we can find Cartan subalgebras which are invariant under the actions of our finite cyclic groups. We also show that the class of actions we are able to treat is big enough to characterize the UCT problem, in the sense that every such action (even on a particular Kirchberg algebra, namely the Cuntz algebra $$\mathcal O_2$$ O 2 ) leads to a crossed product satisfying the UCT if and only if every separable nuclear C*-algebra satisfies the UCT. Our results rely on a new construction of Cartan subalgebras in certain inductive limit C*-algebras. This new tool turns out to be of independent interest. For instance, among other things, the second author has used it to construct Cartan subalgebras in all classifiable unital stably finite C*-algebras.

AbstractRepresentations of the Cuntz algebra ${\mathcal{O}}_{N}$ are constructed from interval dynamical systems associated with slow continued fraction algorithms introduced by Giovanni Panti. Their irreducible decomposition formulas are characterized by using the modular group action on real numbers, as a generalization of results by Kawamura, Hayashi, and Lascu. Furthermore, a certain symmetry of such an interval dynamical system is interpreted as a covariant representation of the $C^{\ast }$-dynamical system of the “flip-flop” automorphism of ${\mathcal{O}}_{2}$.

We determine the group structure of the homotopy set whose target is the automorphism group of the Cuntz algebra [Formula: see text] for finite [Formula: see text] in terms of K-theory. We show that there is an example of a space for which the homotopy set is a noncommutative group, and hence, the classifying space of the automorphism group of the Cuntz algebra for finite [Formula: see text] is not an H-space. We also make an improvement of Dadarlat’s classification of continuous fields of the Cuntz algebras in terms of vector bundles.

AbstractWe investigate how the fixed point algebra of a C*-dynamical system can differ from the underlying C*-algebra. For any exact group Γ and any infinite group Λ, we construct an outer action of Λ on the Cuntz algebra 𝒪2 whose fixed point algebra is almost equal to the reduced group C*-algebra ${\rm C}_{\rm r}^* (\Gamma)$. Moreover, we show that every infinite group admits outer actions on all Kirchberg algebras whose fixed point algebras fail the completely bounded approximation property.
