Abstract The payload of the Chang’e-4 biological experiment is used as an object for designing and analyzing the location of cold and heat sources. The research compares and analyzes the energy consumption and temperature uniformity of cooling and heating sources mounted on different surfaces using Thermal Desktop/Sinda Fluint, which may be used to guide the design and operation of active thermal control systems. The results indicate that when the hot and cold sources are mounted on the payload’s top surface, the total energy consumption of the active thermal control system is minimized and temperature uniformity is improved.

Heat transfer in capillary pumped loops (CPL) is carried out by transferring the mass of the circulating coolant in the form of liquid and vapor. Therefore, the hydrodynamics of the phases in the CPL determines their heat transfer capacity (heat flow or the product of the heat flow by the heat transfer length). The influence of structural, hydraulic and thermo-physical properties of capillary structures used as capillary pumps in two-phase thermal control systems (Loop Heat Pipes - LHP) on their heat transfer capacity has been analyzed. Methods of increasing the heat transfer capacity of LHP, due to the use of anisotropic capillary structures with a decrease in pore sizes in the direction of the vaporization zone, have been determined. The conditions of LHP operability and the method of analytical calculation of the temperature field in anisotropic capillary structures for a model with pseudo-convection have been considered. The calculated and experimental data have been compared.

Abstract New experimental and calculated data are presented for active thermal interface materials, in which heat is removed not only due to high thermal conductivity, but also due to the evaporation of liquids, for example, water, inside a nanoporous graphene structure. It is shown that such active thermal interfaces may be new systems of active thermal control.

Abstract Contactless thermal control tools play an important role in solving the high-temperature technological processes improving energy efficiency problems. In order to create such controls, the authors analyzed the developing possibility of spectral ratio high-temperature pyrometer using a multispectral radiation receiver (color sensor) TCS34725. In the paper this receiver application coefficients are determined, signals ratio graphs in different spectral intervals on temperature are given for two applications: without additional filtration of the control object radiation infrared component and using an opaque in the infrared spectrum part external filter.
