Training of these professionals was successfully piloted and implemented with six regional cohorts from three state agencies. Independent evaluation data indicated high satisfaction ratings, significant pre- to post increases in knowledge and self-efficacy to provide care, and intentions to increase inter-professional collaborations.

Information available reveals that there are low levels of adequate knowledge on specific dangers of drinking during pregnancy among women. The subject of effectiveness of communication interventions for alcohol exposed pregnancies has been grossly understudied.

The study found strong evidence to link the various forms of excessive alcohol use to FAEE, HIV acquisition among others. Excessive alcohol use among women aged 15-49 in Africa varies from country to country with diverse consequences. Binge drinking is particularly common.
