The health manifesto highlighted that studies on innovation flourish when all sides of the knowledge triangle (research, academia, and industry) work in tandem in terms of enhancing the quality of care. This opportunity should go much better than the implementation of theoretical and academic work in universities worldwide. To respond to this, health innovation is currently being developed by experts in higher education. Therefore, this preface coming from two experts in the field encourages how important to publish studies on innovation in health for reducing the health problems along with issues on healthcare services in clinical or community practice.

Chronic disease is a long term disease. Treatment performed by patients is also routine and continuous to achieve therapeutic success as well as to avoid complications that can be occurred. Adherence is an important factor to reduce complications of chronic disease. There are some efforts that need to do to increase compliance, such as providing information about drug usage from health providers. The use of technology can also be an option as a facility to increase compliance, such as using audiovisual media as an additional means of providing information and short message services or a mobile application for medication reminders on smartphones. This article provides an overview of the role of technology in increasing adherence to patients especially those who are suffering from chronic disease. This article is based on a literature study from some literature or research results. The reviewed literature shows that the use of video in providing information about drugs, sending short messages, and the use of mobile medication reminders to take medication has an effect on increasing adherence significantly in chronic disease patients. The use of technology is effective and efficient in increasing adherence of chronic disease patients.

Patient adherence during the treatment period must be considered, because patient adherence plays an important role in achieving therapeutic success, especially for chronic diseases. Treatment non-adherence is a common and complex problem. Failure to follow a treatment schedule can lead to major health complications, including death. To avoid it, several interventions are needed to control patient non-adherence. There are several interventions that can support and improve patient adherence. These include digital interventions; increasing patient knowledge and understanding of the treatment being undertaken with counseling, Drug Information Services (PIO), providing educational leaflets, digital pillbox reminders and Pill Cards; family support; diaries; keep treatment commitments. Based on this, it is necessary to have an intervention method in terms of education (educational), behavior (behavior), and attitude (affective) in order to achieve patient adherence and the success of chronic disease therapy.

The growing evidence and technology in healthcare lead to an improvement in the patient's health across a continuum of services in clinical and community settings. A multidisciplinary team should work in tandem on this phenomenon. Therefore, innovative healthcare technology must be designed intensively to optimize productivity and provide new insight along with support the standard treatment for particular diseases. In the coming years, technology is needed to change the way of caring for the patient. This is a fundamental aspect because the recent technology has shaped up in front of our practice with advances in digital healthcare services, such as 3D printing, robotics, nanotechnology and even artificial intelligence (The Medical Futurist, 2021). To respond to this, updated studies should be developed and published focusing on innovative technology including in Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, and other health-related topics.
