In this work, we present a comprehensive analytical model and results for an absolute pH sensor. Our work aims to address critical scientific issues such as: (1) the impact of the oxide degradation (sensing interface deterioration) on the sensor’s performance and (2) how to achieve a measurement of the absolute ion activity. The methods described here are based on analytical equations which we have derived and implemented in MATLAB code to execute the numerical experiments. The main results of our work show that the depletion width of the sensors is strongly influenced by the pH and the variations of the same depletion width as a function of the pH is significantly smaller for hafnium dioxide in comparison to silicon dioxide. We propose a method to determine the absolute pH using a dual capacitance system, which can be mapped to unequivocally determine the acidity. We compare the impact of degradation in two materials: SiO2 and HfO2, and we illustrate the acidity determination with the functioning of a dual device with SiO2.

The variable thickness tube drawing is a new modification in the tube drawing methods which enables production of axially variable thickness tubes faster and easier in comparison with other similar methods like radial forging or indentation forging. The production of this type of tubes can be used in optimum design of mechanical parts which do not necessarily need constant thickness along the axis of tube and this method can strikingly reduce the overall weight of parts and mechanical assemblies like cars. In this paper, the variable thickness tube drawing were parameterized in a MATLAB code and optimized with the Ls-Opt software as an optimization engine and Ls-Dyna as a FE solver. The final objective of this optimization study is to determine the minimum thickness which can be produced in one step by this method with various tube dimensions (tube thickness and outer diameter). For verification of results, some experiments were performed in the tube drawing machine which was fabricated by this research group and acceptable correspondence was observed between numerical and experimental results.

Abstract. Coccolithophore play a key role in the marine carbon cycle and ecosystem. The carbonate shells produced by coccolithophore, named as coccolith, could be well preserved in the marine sediment for million years and become an excellent archive for paleoclimate studies. The micro filtering and sinking-decanting method have been successfully designed for coccolith separation and promoted the development of geochemistry studies on coccolith, such as the stable isotopes and Sr / Ca ratio. However, these two methods are still not efficient enough for the sample-consuming methods. In this study, the trajectory of coccoliths movement during a centrifugation process was calculated in theory and carefully tested by separations in practice. We offer a matlab code to estimate the appropriate parameter, angular velocity at a fixed centrifugation duration, for separating certain coccolith size fractions from bulk sediment. This work could improve the efficiency of coccolith separation, especially for the finest size fraction and make it possible to carry the clumped isotope and radio carbon analysis on coccolith in sediment.

The paper explains how to solve the Gyrotron equation system in the Single Mode Time Dependent Approach. In particular, we point out problems encountered when solving these well-known equations. The starting current estimation approach a using time model is suggested. The solution has been implemented in the Matlab code, which is attached to the article.

The present research aims to study the influence of equal channel angular extrusion (ECAE) parameters (die channel angle, die corner angle, and friction coefficient) on cracking and fracture tendency. For this type of analysis, a MATLAB code integrated with finite element Abaqus/Explicit model was developed and used. A parametric study is done to investigate how the damage tendency varies with changes of ECAE parameters. The distribution of the damage factor based on Cockcroft–Latham equation for different channel angles, corner angles, and friction coefficients is depicted. It is observed that the appearance of cracks on the upper surface is more likely to occur than on the lower surface. The reduction in friction coefficient does not guarantee minimum damage tendency. Finally, the optimum parameters for reducing the fracture tendency in ECAE are presented.
