The esterification of oleic acid with alkyl alcohols in solv ent-free systems was catalyzed by an immobilized lipase from Candida sp . 99-125. The influence of several factors, including enzyme concentration, temperature, molar ratio between oleic acid and alkyl alcohols, and structure of alcohol was also investigated. The results indicated that the reactions catalyzed by lipase at 20 o C, in the presence of 3% (w/w) lipase, on the molar ratio of 1:1 between oleic acid and alcohols, afforded products in high yield. It showed high selectivity to primary and low selectivity to secondary alcohols and tertiary alcohols because of the sterically hindered effect. Methanol has certain toxicity on the activity of the lipase. The lipase from Candida sp. 99-125 was identified to be an effective catalyst in the esterification of alcohol and oleic acid at low temperature.

A novel approach for the selective synthesis of α-substituted γ-aminoallylboronates through a copper(I)-catalyzed γ-boryl-substitution of allyl aminals is developed. The reaction proceeds with high yield (up to 88%) and good E/Z selectivity (up to >95:5). Subsequent aldehyde allylation using allylboronates affords (Z)-anti-1,2-amino alcohol derivatives with high stereoselectivity (up to 91% yield, and up to 17:83 E/Z).

Microwave-assisted three-component reaction has been established for the synthesis of aryl alkyl ethers. The reaction was carried out under solvent free conditions in the presence of N-methylimidazole and dialkylacetylenedicarboxylate to furnish a novel approach to O-alkylation of phenol derivatives in high yield

Abstract Background Systematic and scoping literature searches are increasingly resource intensive. We present the results of a scoping review which combines the use of a novel artificial-intelligence-(AI)-assisted Medline search tool with two other ‘traditional’ literature search methods. We illustrate this novel approach with a case study to identify and map the range of conditions (clinical presentations, complications, coinfections and health problems) associated with gonorrhoea infection. Methods To fully characterize the range of health outcomes associated with gonorrhoea, we combined a high yield preliminary search with a traditional systematic search, then supplemented with the output of a novel AI-assisted Medline search tool based on natural language processing methods to identify eligible literature. Results We identified 189 health conditions associated with gonorrhoea infection of which: 53 were identified through the initial ‘high yield’ search; 99 through the systematic search; and 124 through the AI-assisted search. These were extracted from 107 unique references and 21 International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems Ninth and Tenth Revision (ICD 9/10) or Read codes. Health conditions were mapped to the urogenital tract (n = 86), anorectal tract (n = 6) oropharyngeal tract (n = 5) and the eye (n = 14); and other conditions such as systemic (n = 61) and neonatal conditions (n = 7), psychosocial associations (n = 3), and co-infections (n = 7). The 107 unique references attained a Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network (SIGN) score of ≥2++ (n = 2), 2+ (14 [13%]), 2- (30 [28%]) and 3 (45 [42%]), respectively. The remaining papers (n = 16) were reviews. Conclusions Through AI screening of Medline, we captured – titles, abstracts, case reports and case series related to rare but serious health conditions related to gonorrhoea infection. These outcomes might otherwise have been missed during a systematic search. The AI-assisted search provided a useful addition to traditional/manual literature searches especially when rapid results are required in an exploratory setting.

The use of hypervalent iodine reagents as a general tool for the activation of PPh3 and its application to the functionalization of alcohols is reported. Combination of PPh3 with PhICl2 or TolIF2 gives dihalophosphoranes that are characterized by 31P NMR, however, with PhIOAc2, PhI(OTFA)2, or the cyclic chloro(benzoyloxy)iodane, no phosphoranes were observed. Reaction of these iodanes with PPh3 in the presence of primary, secondary, or tertiary alcohols results in either halogenation or acyl-transfer products in moderate to high yield.

The spin-labeled imidazolides of phosphorus 1 and 3 were utilized for the conversion of[xxx]aldoximes to nitriles in high yield. It is hypothesized that this transformation under mild, neutral conditions might serve as a model reaction, mimicking the detoxification of phosphorus-inhibited acetyl cholinesterases.
