Forest management planning can be challenging when allocating multiple ecosystem services (ESs) to management units (MUs), given the potentially conflicting management priorities of actors. We developed a methodology to spatially allocate ESs to MUs, according to the objectives of four interest groups—civil society, forest owners, market agents, and public administration. We applied a Group Multicriteria Spatial Decision Support System approach, combining (a) Multicriteria Decision Analysis to weight the decision models; (b) a focus group and a multicriteria Pareto frontier method to negotiate a consensual solution for seven ESs; and (c) the Ecosystem Management Decision Support (EMDS) system to prioritize the allocation of ESs to MUs. We report findings from an application to a joint collaborative management area (ZIF of Vale do Sousa) in northwestern Portugal. The forest owners selected wood production as the first ES allocation priority, with lower priorities for other ESs. In opposition, the civil society assigned the highest allocation priorities to biodiversity, cork, and carbon stock, with the lowest priority being assigned to wood production. The civil society had the highest mean rank of allocation priority scores. We found significant differences in priority scores between the civil society and the other three groups, highlighting the civil society and market agents as the most discordant groups. We spatially evaluated potential for conflicts among group ESs allocation priorities. The findings suggest that this approach can be helpful to decision makers, increasing the effectiveness of forest management plan implementation.

A survey was conducted in the management units of Portneuf and Grand-Portage, Québec to determine the impact of Hypoxylon canker (Hypoxylon mammatum (Wahl.)) on aspen (Populus tremuloides Michx.). In 78 forest stands (2340 stems) of Portneuf, sampling revealed 2.6% of stems (2.0% of volume) affected or dead. In the 82 Grand-Portage stands (2460 stems) 4.1% of stems (2.8% of volume) were affected or dead. Other analyses were carried out on the frequency of the disease in relation to stand characteristics.Although annual losses which represent only a sixth of this evaluation are relatively low, we must emphasize that they are cumulative over the whole life of the stands. Moreover, the importance of the impact could increase if aspen was widely used.

Purpose This paper aims to examine the influence of records management on the performance of procurement management units (PMUs) in Tanzania. Design/methodology/approach To meet the objective of the study, cross-sectional survey design and quantitative approaches were used for data collection and analysis. Preliminary analysis of the data was carried out using descriptive statistics and structural equation modelling was then used to analyse the influence of records management standards on procurement performance. The data were collected from 164 government PMUs in Tanzania. Findings The findings revealed that records management attributes significantly affect procurement performance in Tanzania. Furthermore, government policy and integrity factors confound the association between records management and procurement performance. Practical implications The policymakers and practitioners of public procurement are required to be aware of records management principles and how each related factor influences the performance of PMUs. They should emphasise proper storage and housing, equipment, arrangement and access and implement electronic records management. Originality/value This study shows how the ISO 15489 model can be applied to public procurement processes. This study also provides the lesson that procurement records need to be protected to ensure their authenticity, reliability, integrity and useability.

The density and changes of dimension of beechwood were studied at the site Bor - Boljevac. Four trees were analyzed from different selected and established series of scientific and production experiments in the management units. The results were presented and statistically processed for the data measured at the height of 1. 3 m, and also for the data at three height levels along the technically valuable part of the stem. The study results show the difference between the trees and also within the same tree The study results were compared to the results from other localities in Serbia. They should contribute to the analysis and production of wood in this region.

The paper presents the results of the research on the correlation between changes in microclimate, the intensity of spruce decline and active abundance of its two economically most significant harmful insects-eight-toothed (Ips typographus) and six-toothed (Pityogenes chalcographus) spruce bark beetles (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) in Golija Nature Park whose pure and mixed conifer stands are dominated by spruce. The route method and ocular inspection were applied to study the presence and determine the intensity of spruce decline-both of individual trees and groups of trees in the management units of Dajićke planine, Kolješnica, Golija and Brusničke šume. Population dynamics of the two species of bark beetles and their active abundance were monitored by the method of trapping with barrier traps and the use of combined pheromone dispensers-PCIT Ecolure. Although the decline of individual conifer trees, primarily of spruce, had already been present in certain areas of these management units for several decades, it reached epidemic proportions due to extreme adverse climatic conditions in the period between 2011 and 2012 and culminated in 2015. A large number of physiologically weakened trees raised the population levels of secondary harmful insects and the number or the active abundance of the two investigated species of insects reached a peak in 2016. The inability to take appropriate and timely remedial measures in the areas under stricter protection regimes greatly contributed to this situation.
