Abstract We provide a new perspective on extended Priestley duality for a large class of distributive lattices equipped with binary double quasioperators. Under this approach, non-lattice binary operations are each presented as a pair of partial binary operations on dual spaces. In this enriched environment, equational conditions on the algebraic side of the duality may more often be rendered as first-order conditions on dual spaces. In particular, we specialize our general results to the variety of MV-algebras, obtaining a duality for these in which the equations axiomatizing MV-algebras are dualized as first-order conditions.

AbstractIn this paper, we propose the use of stochastic frontier models to impose theoretical regularity constraints (like monotonicity and concavity) on flexible functional forms. These constraints take the form of inequalities involving the data and the parameters of the model. We address a major concern when statistically endogenous variables are present in these inequalities. We present results with and without endogeneity in the inequality constraints. In the system case (e.g., cost-share equations) or more generally, in production function-first-order conditions case, we detect an econometric problem which we solve successfully. We provide an empirical application to US electric power generation plants during 1986–1997, previously used by several authors.

One of the most thoroughly studied systems in chemical engineering is the classic problem of a first-order exothermic reaction in a diabatic CSTR. In this paper, an extension of the classic problem, in which the reactor vessel temperature varies independently of its contents, is considered. A bifurcation analysis showed that a CSTR in an oscillatory state may be stabilized by the use of a reactor with the appropriate combination of thermal characteristics. Stabilization of an oscillatory state was demonstrated for a variety of scenarios that had been previously shown by Uppal, Ray and Poore to be representative cases of phase diagrams that exhibit limit-cycle behavior.

Five coordinated novel complexes of CuII and NiII have been synthesized from benzil and 1,3- diaminopropane-CuII/NiII complex and characterized by elemental analysis, i.r., n.m.r., e.p.r, molar conductance and u.v-vis, spectroscopy. The complexes are ionic in nature and exhibit pentaeoordinated geometry around the metal ion. The reaction kinetics of C25H36N5O2CuCl with calf thymus DNA was studied by u.v-vis, spectroscopy in aqueous medium. The complex after interaction with calf thymus DNA shows shift in the absorption spectrum and hypochromicity indicating an intercalative binding mode. The Kobs values have been calculated under pseudo-first order conditions. The redox behaviour of complex C25H36N5O2CuCl in the presence and in the absence of calf thymus DNA in the aqueous solution has been investigated by cyclic voltammetry. The cyclic voitammogram exhibits one quasi-reversible redox wave corresponding to CuII/CuI redox couple with E1/2 values of -0.377 and -0.237 V respectively at a scan rate of 0.1Vs-1 .On interaction with calf thymus DNA, the complex C25H36N5O2CuCl exhibits shifts in both Ep as well as in E1/2 values, indicating strong binding of the complex to the calf thymus DNA.
