Large number of active vibration control systems existing in the literature has brought lot of confusion for engineers and junior researchers. This study deals with the comparison of different active control systems of a 20-storey building under seismic excitation for three control devices: Active Mass Damper (AMD), Active Bracing System (ABS) and Connected Building Control (CBC). Two different control configurations are considered to add active damping to the building. The first one employs force actuator and displacement sensor and is examined with first and second order Positive Position Feedback, Lead compensators and Direct Velocity Feedback. The second configuration employs a displacement actuator collocated with a force sensor and an Integral Force Feedback control law. A total number of 15 control cases are compared from the point of view of stability, robustness, performance and control effort.

A soft storey or a weak storey is one in which the lateral stiffness is less than 70 percent of that in the storey above or it can be less than 80 percent of the average lateral stiffness of the three stories above. For the reduction of lateral deflection of a structure, a bracing system is provided. In seismic design of structure and in high rise structure, the provision of bracing system has become more effective. So this paper aims to find out the effect of bracing on soft storey of steel building. In this paper, G+9 steel frames are modeled with different type of bracing pattern and different combination of soft story using software STAAD Pro. Effect of these different bracings on soft storey is studied for different parameter like column displacement, maximum deflection, storey drift, maximum bending moment, maximum axial force and maximum shear force. From the observed result best type of bracing will be selected.

The paper presents the analysis of the influence of fasteners and connections flexibility on displacements of symmetrical single-bay pitched-roof steel building, including trapezoidal cladding acting as a diaphragm. The purpose of the article was to compare numerical models with and without taking into consideration fasteners and connections flexibility in order to observe the differences in transverse stiffness of the building during modifying model from the simple one to more complex and precise. The analyses were carried out for the 3D structure. Fasteners and connections were substituted by equivalent beam finite elements. Corrugated sheets were replaced by three types of equivalent orthotropic shell models and the influence of the choice of the model on the stiffness of the building was observed. The results showed that in the analysed structure the flexibility of fasteners and connections has negligible effect on transverse displacements of the building in the case of four sides fastening of the sheeting, however in the case of two sides fastening the influence significantly increases.
