Blockchain is currently one of the most important topics in both the academia and industry world, mainly due to the possible effects that the continuing application of this new technology could have. The adoption of this technology by FinTech companies constitutes the next step towards the expansion of blockchain and its sustainability. The paper conducts a mapping study on the research topics, limitations, gaps and future trends of blockchain in FinTech companies. A total of 49 papers from a scientific database (Web of Science Core Collection) have been analyzed. The results show a deep focus in challenges such as security, scalability, legal and regulatory, privacy or latency, with proposed solutions still to be far from being effective. A vast majority of the research is focused into finance and banking sector, obviating other industries that could play a crucial role in the further expansion of blockchain. This study can contribute to researchers as a starting point for their investigation, as well as a source for recommendations on future investigation directions regarding blockchain in the FinTech sector.

PurposeThe paper attempts to address the following research questions (RQs): RQ1: What are the main research topics within PSS research? RQ2: What are future trends for PSS research?Design/methodology/approachTwenty years of research (1999–2018) on product-service systems (PSS) produced a significant amount of scientific literature on the topic. As the PSS field is relatively new and fragmented across different disciplines, a review of the prior and relevant literature is important in order to provide the necessary framework for understanding current developments and future perspectives. This paper aims to review and organize research contributions regarding PSS. A machine-learning algorithm, namely Latent Dirichlet Allocation, has been applied to the whole literature corpus on PSS in order to understand its structure.FindingsThe adopted approach resulted in the definition of eight distinct and representative topics able to deal adequately with the multidisciplinarity of the PSS. Furthermore, a systematic review of the literature is proposed to summarize the state-of-the-art and limitations in the identified PSS research topics. Based on this critical analysis, major gaps and future research challenges are presented and discussed.Originality/valueOn the basis of the results of the topic landscape, the paper presents some potential research opportunities on PSSs. In particular, challenges, transversal to the eight research topics and related to recent technology trends and digital transformation, have been discussed.

This chapter presents an introduction to fuzzy logic and to fuzzy databases. With regard to the first topic, we have introduced the main concepts in this field to facilitate the understanding of the rest of the chapters to novel readers in fuzzy subjects. With respect to the fuzzy databases, this chapter gives a list of six research topics in this fuzzy area. All these topics are briefly commented on, and we include references to books, papers, and even to other chapters of this handbook, where we can find some interesting reviews about different subjects and new approaches with different goals. Finally, we give a historic summary of some fuzzy models, and we conclude with some future trends in this scientific area.

This paper analyzes the contribution that the European Accounting Review has made to accounting research since it was launched in 1992. Among the many motives for writing this paper, we believe that the most important ones are to identify the evolution of the main areas of research and to predict future trends in the field of accounting. Via a bibliometric approach, we have analyzed a total of 952 European Accounting Review publications indexed in the Scopus database since its inception, as well as 22,605 publications from 18 other journals indexed in the first quartile in the subject category 'accounting' of the Scopus database. We have identified the most influential documents and authors based on their publications and citations, the most productive institutions and their co-citation patterns, and the most prolific countries over three sub periods: 1992-2000, 2001-2010 and 2011-2019. We have also examined past and current research topics giving special attention to ‘accounting history’ to study the significance of this field of research in the journal. Some of our findings show that the most productive authors in EAR are Christopher Humphrey, David Alexander, Christopher W. Nobes, Pat Sucher and Begoña Giner. Regarding institutions and countries, the British, Spanish, and Dutch excelled in productivity. The topic ‘disclosure’ was the most addressed from 1992 to 2010, whereas ‘audit’ and ‘IFRS’ took the lead in the last decade. We have also studied the journal’s patterns of publication on ‘accounting history’. Our findings reveal that, although the publications in that field have been decreasing over the years, 9% of all documents published in the EAR are in that field of research.

Metaphor is widely used in human communication. The cohort of scholars studying metaphor in various fields is continuously growing, but very few work has been done in bibliographical analysis of metaphor research. This paper examines the advancements in metaphor research from 2000 to 2017. Using data retrieved from Microsoft Academic Graph and Web of Science, this paper makes a macro analysis of metaphor re search, and expounds the underlying patterns of its development. Taking into consideration sub-fields of metaphor research, the internal analysis of metaphor research is carried out from a micro perspective to reveal the evolution of research topics and the inherent relationships among them. This paper provides novel insights into the current state of the art of metaphor research as well as future trends in this field, which may spark new research interests in metaphor from both linguistic and interdisciplinary perspectives.
