AbstractWe study left-invariant almost paracontact metric structures on arbitrary three-dimensional Lorentzian Lie groups. We obtain a complete classification and description under a natural assumption, which includes relevant classes as normal and almost para-cosymplectic structures, and we investigate geometric properties of these structures.

In this paper, we study natural paracontact magnetic trajectories in the unit tangent bundle, i.e., those that are associated to g-natural paracontact metric structures. We characterize slant natural paracontact magnetic trajectories as those satisfying a certain conservation law. Restricting to two-dimensional base manifolds of constant Gaussian curvature and to Kaluza–Klein type metrics on their unit tangent bundles, we give a full classification of natural paracontact slant magnetic trajectories (and geodesics).

Abstract We show obstructions to the existence of a coclosed {\mathrm{G}_{2}} -structure on a Lie algebra {\mathfrak{g}} of dimension seven with non-trivial center. In particular, we prove that if there exists a Lie algebra epimorphism from {\mathfrak{g}} to a six-dimensional Lie algebra {\mathfrak{h}} , with the kernel contained in the center of {\mathfrak{g}} , then any coclosed {\mathrm{G}_{2}} -structure on {\mathfrak{g}} induces a closed and stable three form on {\mathfrak{h}} that defines an almost complex structure on {\mathfrak{h}} . As a consequence, we obtain a classification of the 2-step nilpotent Lie algebras which carry coclosed {\mathrm{G}_{2}} -structures. We also prove that each one of these Lie algebras has a coclosed {\mathrm{G}_{2}} -structure inducing a nilsoliton metric, but this is not true for 3-step nilpotent Lie algebras with coclosed {\mathrm{G}_{2}} -structures. The existence of contact metric structures is also studied.

We study the interplays between paracontact geometry and the theory of bi-Legendrian manifolds. We interpret the bi-Legendrian connection of a bi-Legendrian manifold M as the paracontact connection of a canonical paracontact structure induced on M and then we discuss many consequences of that result both for bi-Legendrian and for paracontact manifolds, as a classification of paracontact metric structures. Finally new classes of examples of paracontact manifolds are presented.

Abstract By regarding the complex indicatrix as an embedded CR-hypersurface of the holomorphic tangent bundle in a fixed point, we analyze some aspects of the relations between its CR structure and the considered contact structure. Moreover, using the classification of the almost contact metric structures associated with a strongly pseudo-convex CR-structure, of D. Chinea and C. Gonzales, we determine the classes corresponding to the natural contact structure of the complex indicatrix and the new structures obtained under a gauge transformation.

We have investigated the spectrograms (dispersion: 8Å/mm) in the photographic infrared region fromλ7500 toλ9000 of some carbon stars obtained by the coudé spectrograph of the 74-inch reflector attached to the Okayama Astrophysical Observatory. The names of the stars investigated are listed in Table 1.

For years the separation of carcinoma and sarcoma and the subclassification of sarcomas has been based on the appearance of the tumor cells and their microscopic growth pattern and information derived from certain histochemical and special stains. Although this method of study has produced good agreement among pathologists in the separation of carcinoma from sarcoma, it has given less uniform results in the subclassification of sarcomas. There remain examples of neoplasms of different histogenesis, the classification of which is questionable because of similar cytologic and growth patterns at the light microscopic level; i.e. amelanotic melanoma versus carcinoma and occasionally sarcoma, sarcomas with an epithelial pattern of growth simulating carcinoma, histologically similar mesenchymal tumors of different histogenesis (histiocytoma versus rhabdomyosarcoma, lytic osteogenic sarcoma versus rhabdomyosarcoma), and myxomatous mesenchymal tumors of diverse histogenesis (myxoid rhabdo and liposarcomas, cardiac myxoma, myxoid neurofibroma, etc.)

With the extensive industrial use of asbestos in this century and the long latent period (20-50 years) between exposure and tumor presentation, the incidence of malignant mesothelioma is now increasing. Thus, surgical pathologists are more frequently faced with the dilemma of differentiating mesothelioma from metastatic adenocarcinoma and spindle-cell sarcoma involving serosal surfaces. Electron microscopy is amodality useful in clarifying this problem.In utilizing ultrastructural features in the diagnosis of mesothelioma, it is essential to appreciate that the classification of this tumor reflects a variety of morphologic forms of differing biologic behavior (Table 1). Furthermore, with the variable histology and degree of differentiation in mesotheliomas it might be expected that the ultrastructure of such tumors also reflects a range of cytological features. Such is the case.
