Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are emerging network technology with innumerable applications. But security and energy constraints reduce its successful deployments. The nodes in network are greatly involved in transmissions and other processing operations for maintenance other than establishing or handling a call. Due to limited processing ability, storage capacity and most importantly the available battery power of the nodes, it is required to minimize the transmission power and the amount of data transmitted, for efficient operation. This paper presents a power aware routing protocol designed for wireless sensor networks. The proposed routing protocol is an extended and enhanced version of Dynamic Source Routing protocol. It adds energy awareness to the existing implementation of DSR protocol. Energy metric is considered during route selection process to choose an optimal path in terms of overall energy of the nodes along the path, and “low energy notification” method is used during route maintenance process to increase the lifetime of the bridge nodes to avoid network partitioning. The performance of DSR protocol and Energy Aware DSR (EADSR) protocol are compared through NS2 simulation under different scenarios. In all the cases, it is seen that EADSR protocol out-performs DSR protocol by energy saving in efficient manner

The paper presents energy-efficiency opportunistic multicast routing protocol (EOMR) for the multicast energy consumption minimization problem in wireless sensor networks. The protocol divides the network into single grids, so each node determines their own coordinates according to the grid, which they locate in a certain period of time. The nodes only need to know the topology of their own grid, instead of the topology of the entire network. Nodes in the same grid determine the priority in light of the upstream and downstream links metrics, and use the opportunistic routing to send messages to the next hop. The destinations calculate the optimal path in accordance with the hops and links cost, and transmission acknowledgement to source along the optimal path selected. If all nodes in the current grid transmission messages failure, the neighbor grids are in charge of retransmission. The results of simulation show that, compared with traditional multicast routing, EOMR is effective in reducing the consumption of links cost, so that it improves the link reliability and reduces the delay.

In recent era of IoT, energy ingesting by sensor nodes in Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) is one of the key challenges. It is decisive to diminish energy ingesting due to restricted battery lifespan of sensor nodes, Objective of this research is to develop efficient routing protocol/algorithm in IoT based scenario to enhance network performance with QoS parameters. Therefore, keeping this objective in mind, a QoS based Optimized Energy Clustering Routing (QOECR) protocol for IoT based WSN is proposed and evaluated. QOECR discovers optimal path for sink node and provides better selection for sub-sink nodes. Simulation has been done in MATLAB to assess the performance of QOECR with pre-existing routing protocols. Simulation outcomes represent that QOECR reduces E2E delay 30%-35%, enhances throughput 25%-30%, minimizes energy consumption 35%-40%, minimizes packet loss 28%-32%, improves PDR and prolongs network lifetime 32%-38% than CBCCP, HCSM and ZEAL routing protocols.

Wireless Sensor Networks are appropriate for many applications such as agriculture, smart phones, automation and disaster reduction. In general, medium access control protocol (MAC) plays a vital role in WSN by informing the network when and how to access a medium and as a result it reduces the energy consumption. In wireless sensor networks in the star topology consistent 802.15.4k standard in which sensors could neglect to report detecting data to the get to point because of impermanent checks that disorder the connection with the access point. In this paper we discuss the connectivity and information loss of wireless environments. We categorize the work First; we study general connectivity requirements in relay networks. Second, to avoid information loss and to restore the proper connectivity. It can be performed by firefly algorithm with localizability aided localization protocol (F-LSL). It depends on the device of stochastic geometry and specifically, on Poisson direct procedures toward look for the tradeoff, which emerges from the determination of a subset of transfer hubs and the vital transmitted power that transfers need to use to reestablish arrange network.
