Due to the different characteristics of the piece goods (e.g. size and weight), they are transported in general cargo warehouses by manually-operated industrial trucks such as forklifts and pallet trucks. Since manual activities are susceptible to possible human error, errors occur in logistical processes in general cargo warehouses. This leads to incorrect loading, stacking and damage to storage equipment and general cargo. It would be possible to reduce costs arising from errors in logistical processes if these errors could be remedied in advance. This paper presents a monitoring procedure for logistical processes in manually-operated general cargo warehouses. This is where predictive analysis is applied. Seven steps are introduced with a view to integrating predictive analysis into the IT infrastructure of general cargo warehouses. These steps are described in detail. The CRISP4BigData model, the SVM data mining algorithm, the data mining tool R, the programming language C++ for the scoring in general cargo warehouses represent the results of this paper. After having created the system and installed it in general cargo warehouses, initial results obtained with this method over a certain time span will be compared with results obtained without this method through manual recording over the same period.

AbstractElectronic fetal monitoring (EFM) has been criticized as ineffective, unsafe and costly. Despite existing controversy regarding the risks involved in using EFM, this monitoring procedure continues to be widely employed. In many jurisdictions, in fact, the use of EFM during labor may be considered the customary practice. This Article analyzes the medical and legal issues arising from a physician's use of or failure to use EFM. The Author argues that EFM subjects the mother and the fetus to risks which may be avoided if auscultation, a less intrusive monitoring technique, is employed. The ‘customary practice’ standard of care, the ordinary negligence standard of care, and the ‘best judgment’ and ‘duty to keep abreast’ standards of care are compared and applied to the physician's decision to use EFM. The Author contends that physicians who employ auscultation may not be liable for failing to use EFM; however, physicians who use EFM despite the evidence of its risks may be liable for failing to ‘keep abreast’ or to use their ‘best judgment’ or for negligence. Finally, the Author contends that both physicians and their patients are best protected when the physician elicits the mother's informed consent to employ a particular monitoring technique during labor.

In most statistical process control (SPC) applications, quality of a process or product is monitored by univariate or multivariate control charts. However, sometimes a functional relationship between a response variable and one or more explanatory variables is established and monitored over time. This relationship is called “profile” in SPC literature. In this paper, we specifically consider processes with compositional data responses, including multivariate positive observations summing to one. The relationship between compositional data responses and explanatory variables is modeled by a Dirichlet regression profile. We develop a monitoring procedure based on likelihood ratio test (lrt) for Phase I monitoring of Dirichlet regression profiles. Then, we compare the performance of the proposed method with the best method in the literature in terms of probability of signal. The results of simulation studies show that the proposed control chart has better performance in Phase I monitoring than the competing control chart. Moreover, the proposed method is able to estimate the real time of a change as well. The performance of this feature is also investigated through simulation runs which show the satisfactory performance. Finally, the application of the proposed method is illustrated based on a real case in comparison with the existing method.

Persistent Scatterer Interferometry (PS-InSAR) has become an indispensable tool for monitoring surface motion in urban environments. The interferometric configuration of PS-InSAR tends to mix topographic and deformation components in differential interferometric observations. When the upcoming constellation missions such as, e.g., TanDEM-L or TWIN-L provide new standard operating modes, bi-static stacks for deformation monitoring will be more commonly available in the near future. In this paper, we present an analysis of the applicability of such data sets for urban monitoring, using a stack of pursuit monostatic data obtained during the scientific testing phase of the TanDEM-X (TDX) mission. These stacks are characterized by extremely short temporal baselines between the TerraSAR-X (TSX) and TanDEM-X acquisitions at the same interval. We evaluate the advantages of this acquisition mode for urban deformation monitoring with several of the available acquisition pairs. Our proposed method exploits the special properties of this data using a modified processing chain based on the standard PS-InSAR deformation monitoring procedure. We test our approach with a TSX/TDX mono-static pursuit stack over Guangzhou, using both the proposed method and the standard deformation monitoring procedure, and compare the two results. The performance of topographic and deformation estimation is improved by using the proposed processing method, especially regarding high-rise buildings, given the quantitative statistic on temporal coherence, detectable numbers, as well as the PS point density of persistent scatters points, among which the persistent scatter numbers increased by 107.2% and the detectable height span increased by 78% over the standard processing results.

Due to the effect of climate factors, natural phenomena and human usage, buildings and infrastructures are subject of progressive degradation. The deterioration of these structures has to be monitored in order to avoid hazards for human beings and for the natural environment in their neighborhood. Hence, on the one hand, monitoring such infrastructures is of primarily importance. On the other hand, unfortunately, nowadays this monitoring effort is mostly done by expert and skilled personnel, which follow the overall data acquisition, analysis and result reporting process, making the whole monitoring procedure quite expensive for the public (and private, as well) agencies. <br><br> This paper proposes the use of a partially user–assisted procedure in order to reduce the monitoring cost and to make the obtained result less subjective as well. The developed method relies on the use of images acquired with standard cameras by even inexperienced personnel. The deterioration on the infrastructure surface is detected by image segmentation based on a level sets method. The results of the semi-automated analysis procedure are remapped on a 3D model of the infrastructure obtained by means of a terrestrial laser scanning acquisition. <br><br> The proposed method has been successfully tested on a portion of a road bridge in Perarolo di Cadore (BL), Italy.
