In this study, an experimental investigation was done to study the behaviour of Normal Strength Concrete (NSC) and High Strength Concrete (HSC) Plain beams under torsion with the concrete mix of M40 and M100. No mineral admixtures are used to obtain the required strength of concrete. Eight NSC beams and eight HSC beams whose width was varying with 75 mm, 100 mm, and 150 mm; depth varying as 75 mm, 100 mm, 150 mm and 200 mm; and span of the beams varying 600 mm, 800 mm and 1200 mm were casted and cured to stud the effect of torsion. The principle aim of this study was to understand the torsional behaviour of the NSC and HSC beams for rotation, cracking, size effect and torsional strength. A standard torsional loading method was used for conducting the testing of beams. The results obtained were compared with different theories and code equations. It was observed that the torsional strength of the beam increases with the increase in strength of concrete. HSC beams have higher torsional strength than the NSC beams which has the same amount of reinforcement.

The method of applying prestress to CFRP plates can make full use of the characteristics of high-strength, enhance the force properties, prevent peeling damage and reduce the strain lag. Construction technology of prestressed CFRP plates strengthening reinforcement concrete beams was introduce in this paper, and bending test of 6 reinforcement concrete beams strengthened with prestressed CFRP plates were carried out based on the self-developed prestressed CFRP plates supporting anchorages. The test results indicate that the flexural capacity and crack resistance capacity can be increased compared with non-prestressed CFRP plates, and the construction technology can be adopted in practical projects.

High-strength cementitious materials such as high-performance concrete are extensively used for retrofit of reinforced concrete (RC) structures. The effectiveness of these materials is increased when mixed with steel fibers. A commonly used technique for strengthening and repair of RC beams consists of applying high-performance fiber-reinforced concrete jackets around the beam perimeter. This paper investigates the jacketing method for repairing severely damaged RC beams. Four 2 m (6 ft 63/4 in.) long rectangular RC beams, 200 × 300 mm (8 ×12 in.) were initially cast and loaded until failure based on three-point bending tests. The four beams were then repaired by thickening the sides of the damaged RC beams using a commercially available high-strength shrinkage grout with and without steel fibers. Strain and deformation were recorded in the damaged and repaired beams to compare structural performance. It is shown that the flexural strength of the repaired beams is increased and the crack pattern under loading is improved, proving that the proposed repair method can restore the resistance capacity of RC beams despite the degree of damage. A method for repair is proposed and an analytical investigation is also performed to understand the structural behavior of the repaired beams based on different thickening configurations.
