A new species, Megachile (Neocressionella) patialensis is described from Patiala, India. Full description of male with their floral relationship, morphological measurements and specimens examined is provided. Knowledge of the life history and nesting habits of Megachile bees will pave the way for their manipulation so that these can be used to increase pollination. Documentation of the genera and species will increase our knowledge of the biodiversity of these bees in the study area.

AbstractA recent discovery of freshwater sponges in an unexplored hydrographic basin in north-western Australia provided the opportunity to investigate the genus Corvospongilla Annandale (Spongillida: Spongillidae) using integrative systematics. Emendation of the genus diagnosis is provided. A comparative analysis of a Corvospongilla global dataset of morphological traits together with biogeographic patterns disclosed a new Australasian Corvospongilla species and along with molecular analyses provided the basis for a phylogenetic and phylogeographic tree for some Asian, Afrotropical and Australasian lineages.

A new species, Lappula botschantzevii, is described from the desert zone of North-Western Africa. The new species belongs to the section Lappula and is close to the species L. patula, from which it differs in a smaller corolla, a scorpioid inflorescence (bilateral flowers) with loosely spaced flowers, a heteromorphic coenobium with two types of eremocarps: A) winged with glochids and a large number of spines along the edges of the disc of eremocarps and B) with a second short row of spines. The species is described based on samples from collections housed in three herbaria: Herbarium of the Komarov Botanical Institute RAS, Sankt-Peterburg (LE, Russia) and Muséum National d ‘Histoire Naturelle, Paris (P, France), Université de Montpellier (MPU). It is named after the Russian botanist Viktor Petrovich Botschantzev, who spent many years studying the flora of Africa and who collected samples of the new species. The absence of holotypes required the typification of the names of the studied species Lappula patula, L. capensis and L. eckloniana.

A new species of Synelmis (Annelida: Polychaeta: Pilargidae), Synelmis urgorrii sp. nov., is described from the continental slope off north-western Spain. The new species is characterized by having antennae, peristomial cirri and parapodial cirri cirriform, lateral antennae located in the proximal third of the prostomium, notospines starting on chaetigers 7–11, well-developed neuropodial lobe and asymmetrical furcate chaetae, those of anterior chaetigers distinctly spinulated.

A new species of Terebellidae, Pistacolinisp. n., has been identified from the harbour of Banyuls-sur-Mer, north-western Mediterranean Sea. This new species was found in very high densities, exclusively in gravelly sand deposited manually, and was not found in the original source habitat of the gravel. This species is characterized by the colour of the ventral shields with pinkish anterior part and a blood red posterior part in live specimens, a pair of unequal-sized plumose branchiae inserted on segment II and anterior thoracic neuropodia with long-handled uncini. The presence of long-handled uncini even in the smallest specimens constitutes the major difference between Pistacolinisp. n. and other Pista species with a single pair of branchiae such as P.lornensis and P.bansei.

Sphaerotheca pashchima, a new species of burrowing frog, is described from western India. It can be diagnosed from all its congeners based on a combination of characters including interorbital width less than upper eyelid width, snout to nostril distance less than half of eye diameter, nostril nearer to snout than to eye, internarial distance greater than inter orbital distance, snout rounded, dorsum rough and warty, finger 2 length equal to or less than finger 4 length, finger 1 less finger 3 length, outer metatarsal tubercle absent, tibio tarsal tubercle absent, length of inner metatarsal tubercle more than three times the inner toe length and reduced webbing.  We also provide 16S rRNA gene sequence for S. pashchima sp. nov. and show that it is genetically distinct from species of Sphaerotheca for which genetic data is available.

AbstractThe type material of most European nominal species previously placed in Rhoptromeris and of some other species is studied. Notes are given on the type material, 10 lectotypes are designated and the identity of the species is discussed. Three valid Rhoptromeris species are found: R. heptoma (Hartig) [type species], R. villosa (Hartig) and R. rufiventris (Giraud) n.comb. The latter is the type species of Hexamerocera Kieffer which is synonymized with Rhoptromeris. The genus Rhoptromeris is described and compared with related genera. The three species found to be valid are figured and redescribed, and also a new species, R. nigriventris, is described from Sweden. R. heptoma is an important parasitoid of Oscinella frit (L.) (Dipt.: Chloropidae).

A new genus Burmanyctycia gen. n. is described for the new species Burmanyctycia naumanni sp. n. from Chin State in north-western Myanmar. The new genus is related to the genera Blepharomima Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1998, Bryotypella Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1998 and Charanyctycia Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1998. Two new synonyms are established: Bryotypella = Paranyctycia Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1998, syn. n. and Bryotypella = Parabole Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1998, syn. n. Six new combinations are established: Bryotypella minima (Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1999), comb. n., Bryotypella miraculosa (Hreblay, Peregovits & L. Ronkay, 1999), comb. n., Bryotypella orbiculosa (Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1998), comb. n., Bryotypella rubiculosa (Hreblay & Ronkay, 1999), comb. n., Bryotypella medionigra (Hreblay & Ronkay, 1998), comb. n. and Bryotypella rectilinea (Hreblay & L. Ronkay, 1998), comb. n. The check-lists of the genera Bryotypella and Charanyctycia are provided. Adults, male and female genitalia of the new and the related taxa are illustrated.
