Abstract The deformation of gear blank is serious in the machining process of the split straight bevel gear, considering the material and the design of gear blank, the relationship between the change of additional stress and bending deformation of gear blank is studied, and the calculation model of the internal additional stress and additional torque during the gear cutting is established.According to the moment-area method, the calculation formula of the bending deformation of gear blank is derived, and combined with the time-varying stiffness, the mathematical model of the gear blank deformation is obtained. The theoretical calculation, finite element analysis and experimental results are highly consistent.Based on the above research, the internal relationships between the machining deformation and the geometric parameters such as the thickness, diameter and gear module of the split gear blank is analyzed, and the reasonable design of the geometric parameters of the split gear blank and the reasonable dividing law of the gear blank are explored.

The purpose of this work is to present a clear fundamental thought for designing and investigating straight bevel gear made of composite material. Composite materials have the advantage of being light, producing low noises, and extra loading capacities. Due to these properties, it is highly preferable over conventional materials. A comparison between different types of material used in a gear structure will be shown. The outcome shows that a new form of cheap material may be useful for designing a new type of lighter and stiffer gear, designed for robotic arm applications or any power transmission application.

In this paper, a model has been developed for calculating the Hertzian stress distribution of straight bevel gear. One pair of straight bevel gear teeth replaced with multiple pairs of spur gear teeth by using Tredgold approximation. The transmitted load and radii of curvature are evaluated and used to determine the stress distribution. The results show that these stresses are constant along the face width of tooth. Moreover, the magnitude of theses stresses are in good agreement with the simulation results using commercial ABAQUS software

In order to establish precise grinding cutter model of straight bevel gear, this study projects the spherical involute that forms tooth profile of bevel gear into the involute of circle approximately, and makes a simulation model database of bevel gear according to the principle of mechanical design on the basis of CAD mapping software. With the central projection method, processing devices and cutters of involute straight bevel gear can also be designed which has no concern with modulus. The results show that the establishment of simulation database and processing cutters can greatly facilitate the design and processing of straight bevel gear, greatly reduce the design and finishing costs, and is also helpful to teaching training of gear.
