Resistance to wear of hot die steel is dependent on its mechanical properties governed by the microstructure. The required properties for given application of hot die steel can be obtained with control the microstructure by heat treatment parameters. In the present paper impact of different heat treatment parameters like austenitizing temperature, tempering time, tempering temperature is studied using response surface methodology (RSM) and artificial neural network (ANN) to predict sliding wear of H13 hot die steel. After heat treating samples at austenitizing temperature of 1020°C, 1040°C and 1060°C; tempering temperature 540°C, 560°C and 580°C; tempering time 1hour, 2hours and 3hours, experimentation on pin-on-disc tribo-tester is done to measure the sliding wear of H13 die steel. Box-Behnken design is used to develop a regression model and analysis of variance technique is used to verify the adequacy of developed model in case of RSM. Whereas, multi-layer feed-forward backpropagation architecture with input layer, single hidden layer and an output layer is used in ANN. It was found that ANN proves to be a better tool to predict sliding wear with more accuracy. Correlation coefficient R2 of the artificial neural network model is 0.986 compared to R2 of 0.957 for RSM. However, impact of input parameter interactions can only be analysed using response surface method. In addition, sensitivity analysis is done to determine the heat treatment parameter exerting most influence on the wear resistance of H13 hot die steel and it showed that tempering time has maximum influence on wear volume, followed by tempering temperature and austenitizing temperature. The prediction models will help to estimate the variation in die lifetime by finding the amount of wear that will occur during use of hot die steel, if the heat treatment parameters are varied to achieve different properties.

The results of the development of a new alloy of the Al – Mg – Si system of the 6xxx series, which received the V-1381 grade, are presented. The influence of the composition and modes of heat treatment on the mechanical and corrosion properties of sheets with a thickness of 1,0 and 3,0 mm, manufactured under the conditions of FSUE “VIAM”, was investigated. Average level of sheet properties: UTS = 410 MPa, YTS = 360 MPa, El = 11.5 %; fatigue crack growth (dl/dN) = 0,59 mm/kcycle at ΔK = 18,6 MPa·m1/2, intergranular corrosion ≤ 0,15 mm, exfoliation corrosion 4 points. It was found that the structure of the sheets is recrystallized, the main strengthening phase is the coherent matrix β’(Mg2Si)-phase evenly distributed in the volume of grains with a high density. There is also a heterogeneous origin of β′-phase on dislocations and dispersoids. At grain boundaries there are zones free from emissions with a width of 15 – 20 nm. Dispersoids of various morphologies are observed in the tested samples. Temperature and heat values of phase transformations in ingots and sheets are determined and established liquidus and solidus points. The sheet weldability was evaluated by automatic argon-arc welding and the critical rate of deformation of the weld metal during crystallization was determined, at which no cracks were formed in it. Laser welding mode has been developed to ensure optimal formation of geometric parameters of the weld.

The results of researches on steel 4H4N5M4F2 modes thermo-deformation processing optimization are given. It is established that incomplete annealing (750 °С ± 20 °С in comparison with full annealing 860 °С) in cast and forged condition promotes to improve the machining of blanks for the manufacture of matrices. It is shown that the use of incomplete annealing, namely partial recrystallization promotes the formation of spheroidized rather than lamellar carbide phase, which leads to a decrease in the characteristics: strength threshold, yield strength, hardness 900 MPa, 800 MPa, 32 33 HRC in the cast state and 1200 MPa, 1050 MPa, 38 39 HRC in forged condition, respectively. This increases the fracture toughness: 180 J/cm2 in the cast state and 130 J/cm2 in the forged state. The optimized mode of forging at the temperature of 1170 ± 20 °С and heat treatment (hardening at 1100 ± 5 °С and tempering at 595 ± 5 °С) of steel 4H4N5M4F2 allowed to increase impact strength five times in comparison with cast experimental steel, and also to increase strength threshold of 100 MPa. Forged steel 4H4N5M4F2 has slightly lower heat resistance compared to cast, which hardens at temperatures above 630 °C during operation of the die steel tool. After operation of the extruder wheels made of investigated forged steel and forged steel 4H5MF1S, which was used at the enterprise in copper processing, the properties of both steels were determined. The investigated forged steel 4H4N5M4F2 is characterized by an increase in the strength threshold by 200 MPa and hardness by 6 HRC. After operation (production of 60 tons of copper products of M1 grade) the tool (wheel extruder) from H13 steel (analog 4H5MF1S) had micro and macrocracks on the side and inner parts, and in the investigated steel 4H4N5M4F2 such defects were absent. The influence of thermal and aerothermoacoustic treatments on the structure and mechanical properties of БрНХК bronze is considered. An increase in the strength and elasticity of the alloy is established by optimizing the thermal and aerothermoacoustic modes.
