A new plasmonic Ag hybridized CuWO4/WO3 heterostructured nanocomposite was successfully synthesized via a ligand-assisted sol gel method and the photocatalytic activity was evaluated by photo-degradation of methylene blue (MB) under visible light irradiation.

A series of TiO2 thin films with and without Ce3+ doping were successfully obtained on microscope glass slides by sol-gel method. The photocatalytic activities of the pure TiO2 and Ce3+-doped TiO2 thin films were evaluated by the degradation of rhodamine B solution. The effects of both Ce3+ contents and annealing temperatures on the photocatalytic activities of the samples were examined. The results indicated that the TiO2 thin film with an atomic ratio of Ti:Ce=5:1 annealed at 300°C had a higher photocatalytic activity among the samples.

Ag/ZnO nanocomposite photocatalysts with high photocatalytic performance were successfully synthesized via a facile sol-gel method. The prepared Ag/ZnO products were characterized by XRD, SEM, EDS, FT-IR, BET surface area, TG and DSC. Photodegradation experiments of the samples were carried out by choosing Methylene Blue (MB) as a model target under UV irradiation with homemade photocatalytic apparatus. Among these products, when the molar ratio of Ag to ZnO was fixed at 0.07 and the calcination temperature was around 450 °C, the obtained samples exhibited the highest photocatalytic activity.

Titanium dioxide (TiO2) thin film on glass substrate is fabricated by sol-gel method. The TiO2 film is sintered at various temperatures for investigation on the refraction index and crystallization characteristic. The lower refractive index of the TiO2 thin film is 1.89 when the sintering is performed at the low temperature of 200°C and the thickness is 448 nm. However, the higher refractive index of 2.55 and chemical stability of the TiO2 film in rutile phase are obtained via sintering temperature at 700°C.

Ag/TiO2nanofibers were obtained by sol-gel method combined with uniaxial electrospinning. The effects of different sintering temperatures (400°C, 500°C, 600°C) and different concentrations of silver (0 wt%, 0.5 wt%, 1.0 wt%, 1.5 wt%) on photocatalytic activity of TiO2were investigated. The morphology and interface interaction of the Ag/TiO2composites were investigated by SEM, TEM, XRD and UV-visible spectrophotometer. The experimental results showed that the diameter of the fiber sintered at 400°C is about 120 nm and the fiber is composed of 10-20 nm small particles. The degradation rate of methylene blue was 71% for the Ag/TiO2composites fiber with 1.0wt% silver and sintered at 400°C.
