Well logs, biostratigraphic data, seismic data and semblance map which together form a multidisciplinary data approach, were utilized in the geological evaluation of hydrocarbon prospect FOB-Field, onshore Coastal Swamp Depobelt in the Niger Delta Basin. Structural interpretation of faults, correlation of wells and 3D seismic interpretation were carried out using Schlumberger’s window based petrel software integrated with various lines of evidence such as sequence boundaries and maximum flooding surfaces. The penetrated sedimentary succession was established to constrain the alternation of sand packages from proximal to distal. The studied wells were dated mid to late Miocene based on the geological position of the sequence boundary (10.35Ma) and geological ages of the Mfs (9.5MaMfs) and (10.4MaMfs) respectively corresponding to the Coastal Swamp Depobelt of the Niger Delta Basin. Integration of well logs, seismic, semblance, paleobathymetric and biostratigraphic data indicated mid to late Miocene and neritic to bathyal paleoenvironment of deposition. Integration of fault integrity, seismic, well logs and key stratigraphic markers were utilized to build a seismic facies model and a gross depositional environment model for the FOB-Field.

This study was carried out by using well logs to evaluate the depositional environments and hydrocarbon reservoirs in the Otuma oil field, Niger Delta basin. The gamma motif/model within- study interval in the drilled well shows blocky, symmetrical, and serrated shapes which suggest a deltaic front with mouth bar to a regressive - transgressive shoreface delta respectively. A correlation was done on the well logs across the wells and the ten well logs were used to evaluate the petrophysical characteristics of the reservoirs. The reservoirs showed highly porous and permeable channels where the wells were used for the characterization. The ten reservoirs were mapped at a depth range of 2395 m to 2919 m with thicknesses varying from 4m to 135m. The petrophysical results of the field showed that the porosity of the reservoirs ranges between 0.10 to 0.30, and permeability from 48 md to 290 md; the water saturation ranges from 0.39 to 0.52, and hydrocarbon saturation from the field 0.48 to 0.61. The By-passed hydrocarbons identified in low resistivity pay sands D4 and D3 at depth 2649 m to 2919 m, respectively were also evaluated and will be put to production in the field.

A detailed palynostratigraphic and palynofacies study was carried out on two shallow offshore wells, codenamed Well X and Well Y, from the Niger Delta Basin, Nigeria. The study is aimed at establishing the age and palaeoenvironment of the sedimentary sequences penetrated by the wells. Standard palynological/palynofacies laboratory procedures were used to free the palynomorphs and palynomacerals from the embedding matrices.Prepared palynological slides were studied using the Leitz Ortholux II transmitted light microscope. The palynofloral assemblages recorded from the two well sequences include well-preserved palynomorphs such as Zonocostites ramonae, Monoporites annulatus, Retitricolporites irregularis, Cyperaceaepollis sp., Echitricolporites spinosus and Nymphaeapollis clarus among others. The recognition of diagnostic pollen of Cyperaceaepollis sp. and Nymphaeapollis clarus as well as the associated palynomorph assemblage aided the delineation of the well sequences into the P830, P840-P850 and P860 subzones of the P800 palynological zone in the late Miocene. The relative abundance of particulate organic matter (Amorphous Organic Matter (AOM), Phytoclasts and Palynomorphs) revealed the delineation of three palynofacies assemblages, PF-A, PF-B and PF-C, suggesting three distinct paleoenvironments of deposition. These paleoenvironments range from distal shelf through marginal to proximal with varying conditions from oxic, suboxic to anoxic, thus suggesting marginal marine to coastal deltaic environments of deposition for the sedimentary sequences penetrated by the two wells. Foraminifera biostratigraphy and paleoenvironmental analysis of the sediments penetrated by Sahaiawei-1 Well in the Northern Delta Depobelt, Niger Delta Basin was carried out in order to determine the foraminifera biozonation, age, paleobathymetry, depositional environment and paleo-oxygen condition of the well. The total foraminifera population recovered was two thousand, three hundred and sixty five (2365), with planktic foraminifera constituting one hundred and fifty four (154) forms, while calcareous benthic and agglutinated benthic foraminifera recovered accounted for two thousand, one hundred and sixty two (2162) and fourty nine (49) of the total foraminifera population respectively. The total foraminifera species recovered was fifty nine (59); planktic accounted for twenty (20) foraminifera species, while calcareous and agglutinated benthic foraminifera accounted for thirty one (31) and eight (8) foraminifera species respectively. Five benthic foramineferabiozones were identified: lumped P7-P13, P5-P6/P7, lumped P3-P4, lumped P1-P2 and M18 Zones of Blow (1969, 1979). The result of the analysis indicates that the entire analysed interval (1800ft – 10680ft) was deposited during the Late Maastrichtian to Late Eocene epoch. The depositional environments of the Well varied from littoral, marginal, shallow and deep marine environments.
