Abstract This review offers an update on arsenic-bearing minerals and pigments with the aim of serving as a guide for the study of Cultural Heritage materials in which these materials can be found.The different As-bearing mineral phases (realgar, pararealgar, orpiment, anorpiment, alacranite, dimorphite, bonazziite, uzonite, wakabayashilite, duranusite, arsenolite and claudetite) and some of their light-induced products are examined. The occurrence of As-sulfides and their trade, use, alteration and degradation are also reviewed. Finally, the analytical techniques commonly used for the identification of arsenic-containing pigments are discussed. The manuscript concludes with a good-practice guide and a summary of key concepts for use by those working in the field of cultural heritage.

The article presents the determination of the topographic spatial resolution of an optical point sensor. It is quantified by the lateral period limit DLIM measured on a type ASG material measure, also called (topographic) Siemens star, with a confocal sensor following both a radial measurement and evaluation, as proposed by ISO 25178-70, and the measurement and subsequent evaluation of two line scans, proposed by the NPL Good Practice Guide. As will be shown, for the latter, an only slightly misidentified target centre of the Siemens star leads to quite significant errors of the determined DLIM. Remarkably, a misidentified target centre does not necessarily result in an overestimation of DLIM, but lower values might also be obtained. Therefore, a modified Good Practice Guide is proposed to determine DLIM more accurately, as it includes a thorough determination of the centre of the Siemens star as well. While the measurement and evaluation effort is increased slightly compared to the NPL Good Practice Guide, it is still much faster than a complete radial measurement and evaluation.

Los arquitectos históricamente hemos estado vinculados a los procesos de conservación del Patrimonio Cultural. Con motivo de la realización de la Tesis Doctoral, sobre la Difusión del Patrimonio y debido al reconocido prestigio internacional del modelo de gestión Vila Museu en Mértola (Portugal), como ejemplo de buenas prácticas en la puesta en valor, fue seleccionado como uno de los casos de estudio. Este caso es el que se incluye en la presente publicación.El proyecto Vila Museu, surge en los años 80, fruto de una iniciativa del Campo Arqueológico de Mértola, en colaboración con su Asociación en Defensa del Patrimonio y apoyado por la Câmara Municipal. Un proyecto con origen en la investigación arqueológica, que pretendía desarrollar cultural y económicamente una de las regiones más deprimidas de Portugal. Nuestro objetivo era crear un sistema analítico y de evaluación de las acciones de difusión existentes, así como del modelo de gestión desarrollado. Se propusieron una serie de indicadores clasificados en tres fases, según aspectos relacionados con su gestión, con sus contenidos difundidos, y/o con parámetros relacionados con temporalidad y accesibilidad. Abstract:Historically, architects have been related to the processes of Cultural Heritage conservation. Because of the Doctoral Thesis execution about Heritage Dissemination, and due to the recognized international prestige of the management model Vila Museu in Mértola (Portugal), was selected as one of the case studies as an example of good practice in the enhancement. This case will be covered in this edition.The Vila Museu project arose in the 80s, as result of an initiative of the Campo Arqueológico de Mértola, in collaboration with the Asociación en defensa del Patrimonio and helped by Câmara Municipal. A project originating in archaeological research that was aimed to develop culturally and economically one of the most depressed regions of Portugal. The objective was to create an analytical and evaluative system for existing dissemination actions, as well as the management model developed. A series of indicators classified in three phases were proposed, according to aspects related to their management, their disseminated contents, and / or parameters related to temporality and accessibility.

Iron-containing earth minerals of various hues were the earliest pigments of the prehistoric artists who dwelled in caves. Being a prominent part of human expression through art, nature-derived pigments have been used in continuum through ages until now. Studies reveal that the primitive artist stored or used his pigments as color cakes made out of skin or reeds. Although records to help understand the technical details of Indian painting in the early periodare scanty, there is a certain amount of material from which some idea may be gained regarding the methods used by the artists to obtain their results. Considering Indian wall paintings, the most widely used earth pigments include red, yellow, and green ochres, making it fairly easy for the modern era scientific conservators and researchers to study them. The present knowledge on material sources given in the literature is limited and deficient as of now, hence the present work attempts to elucidate the range of earth pigments encountered in Indian wall paintings and the scientific studies and characterization by analytical techniques that form the knowledge background on the topic. Studies leadingto well-founded knowledge on pigments can contribute towards the safeguarding of Indian cultural heritage as well as spread awareness among conservators, restorers, and scholars.
