Hexahedral meshes are a ubiquitous domain for the numerical resolution of partial differential equations. Computing a pure hexahedral mesh from an adaptively refined grid is a prominent approach to automatic hexmeshing, and requires the ability to restore the all hex property around the hanging nodes that arise at the interface between cells having different size. The most advanced tools to accomplish this task are based on mesh dualization. These approaches use topological schemes to regularize the valence of inner vertices and edges, such that dualizing the grid yields a pure hexahedral mesh. In this article, we study in detail the dual approach, and propose four main contributions to it: (i) We enumerate all the possible transitions that dual methods must be able to handle, showing that prior schemes do not natively cover all of them; (ii) We show that schemes are internally asymmetric, therefore not only their construction is ambiguous, but different implementative choices lead to hexahedral meshes with different singular structure; (iii) We explore the combinatorial space of dual schemes, selecting the minimum set that covers all the possible configurations and also yields the simplest singular structure in the output hexmesh; (iv) We enlarge the class of adaptive grids that can be transformed into pure hexahedral meshes, relaxing one of the tight topological requirements imposed by previous approaches. Our extensive experiments show that our transition schemes consistently outperform prior art in terms of ability to converge to a valid solution, amount and distribution of singular mesh edges, and element count. Last but not least, we publicly release our code and reveal a conspicuous amount of technical details that were overlooked in previous literature, lowering an entry barrier that was hard to overcome for practitioners in the field.

Most existing surveys and reviews on web application vulnerability detection (WAVD) approaches focus on comparing and summarizing the approaches’ technical details. Although some studies have analyzed the efficiency and effectiveness of specific methods, there is a lack of a comprehensive and systematic analysis of the efficiency and effectiveness of various WAVD approaches. We conducted a systematic literature review (SLR) of WAVD approaches and analyzed their efficiency and effectiveness. We identified 105 primary studies out of 775 WAVD articles published between January 2008 and June 2019. Our study identified 10 categories of artifacts analyzed by the WAVD approaches and 8 categories of WAVD meta-approaches for analyzing the artifacts. Our study’s results also summarized and compared the effectiveness and efficiency of different WAVD approaches on detecting specific categories of web application vulnerabilities and which web applications and test suites are used to evaluate the WAVD approaches. To our knowledge, this is the first SLR that focuses on summarizing the effectiveness and efficiencies of WAVD approaches. Our study results can help security engineers choose and compare WAVD tools and help researchers identify research gaps.

Abstract We describe the method used by the Multi-Band Template Analysis (MBTA) pipeline to compute the probability of astrophysical origin, pastro, of compact binary coalescence candidates in LIGO-Virgo data from the third observing run (O3). The calculation is performed as part of the offline analysis and is used to characterize candidate events, along with their source classification. The technical details and the implementation are described, as well as the results from the first half of the third observing run (O3a) published in GWTC-2.1. The performance of the method is assessed on injections of simulated gravitational-wave signals in O3a data using a parameterization of pastro as a function of the MBTA combined ranking statistic. Possible sources of statistical and systematic uncertainties are discussed, and their effect on pastro quantified.

Technical details for complex cardiac tumor resection are sparse. We describe the operative technique of modified autotransplantation for resection of a complex pericardial synovial sarcoma in a 63-year-old, Caucasian female. Surgical exposure demonstrated tumor origin at the superior cavoatrial junction and invasion of the aorta, main pulmonary artery, superior pulmonary veins, and left atrial roof. Full macroscopic surgical resection was achieved. The patient received adjuvant radiation for microscopic positive margins and remains alive and with no tumor progression at one year postoperatively. We conclude that modified autotransplantation is a challenging but effective surgical technique when performed with careful patient selection and availability of skilled, cardiothoracic surgeons at a cardiac center of excellence.

As a national intangible cultural heritage of China, the southern Zhejiang Clamp-resist dyeing is a kind of blue quilt manufacturing technology used by ancient folk people. This kind of folk homescloths has its own unique folk aesthetic form, and its patterns are mostly monochrome square symmetrical baizi figures, opera figures and auspicious patterns. In the local customs of Zhejiang province, this kind of quilt is often used as a dowry for women when they get married (Zhang, 2010). In this paper, the author made an in-depth investigation and research on the technical details and inheritance of the southern Zhejiang Clamp-resist dyeing.

Osteoblastoma (OB) and osteoid osteoma (OO) are benign bone-forming tumors, with nearly identical basic microscopic features. The main difference is dimension (OO has usually a nidus measuring <2 cm in diameter). In addition, OB is biologically more active than OO, with a tendency to grow in size. Historically, treatments have included surgical resection and analgesics, although invasiveness and poor tolerance have led to the current standard of care moving toward interventional radiology, where radiofrequency ablation (RFA) represents the most diffuse technique. Magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound surgery (MRgFUS) has recently emerged as another innovative alternative treatment, providing tumor ablation through a needleless and ionizing radiation-free modality. In addition, this technique has the ability to guarantee a very precise and controlled increase in temperature, delivering small amounts of energy that can accurately destroy only the lesion, avoiding healthy surrounding tissues. The present review focuses on MRgFUS as the less invasive, safe, effective, and durable treatment option for the management of osteoid osteoma and osteoblastoma, including a description of technical details, indications and outcomes.

The paper considers modeling the efficiency of power system with integration large share of variable renewable sources of energy with the account of climate conditions of Ukraine. The proposed methodology with its position between system planning and dispatch simulation contributes to the field of hybrid energy system models. The idea behind the method allows high spatial and temporal resolution as well as the inclusion of the technical details of the power system and its dispatch. The novelty of this method is the usage of a parametric approach is chosen to analyze different variable renewable sources of energy scenarios, precisely every possible its share and mix. This provides insights on the systematic effects of different resource mixes and may serve as a new approach to the analysis of future power system development. The additional novelty aspect allows the optimization of the design of the technical details of the power system with large variable renewable sources shares to have continuous improvement of its energy efficiency. The energy balance model generator is well suited for the analysis of large share of variable renewable sources integration in the power system. The design of technical details of the power system with large variable renewable sources shares was optimized with the energy balance model. The results of numerical modelling demonstrated that at 80% variable renewable sources of energy share, the overproduction is reduced to 20%, down from over 100 % without grid extensions. With it, the necessary wind and solar capacity decreases. Consequently, the possible achievable variable renewable sources of energy share is increased, assuming the same technical potential. According to the results, a Ukrainian grid would allow to increase the possible variable renewable sources of energy share from 50% to 75%.

In the evolving landscape of highly multiplexed imaging techniques that can be applied to study complex cellular microenvironments, this review characterizes the use of imaging mass cytometry (IMC) to study the human kidney. We provide technical details for antibody validation, cell segmentation, and data analysis specifically tailored to human kidney samples, and elaborate on phenotyping of kidney cell types and novel insights that IMC can provide regarding pathophysiological processes in the injured or diseased kidney. This review will provide the reader with the necessary background to understand both the power and the limitations of IMC and thus support better perception of how IMC analysis can improve our understanding of human disease pathogenesis and can be integrated with other technologies such as single cell sequencing and proteomics to provide spatial context to cellular data.
