Gender violence is a global social problem. Although in Ecuador there have been achievements in recent decades, this phenomenon persists and tends to increase. This contrasts with the progressive approval of regulations aimed at ending this social problem and responding to the victims. It is relevant, therefore, to analyze the implementation of public policies, in the specific case of the city of Guayaquil, through the documentary review of the investigative, normative and strategic background, as a part of the objectives of a doctoral thesis that is on investigative process1. For this, the data that indicate the problem magnitude were interpreted and the behavior of the elements that influence its solution was studied. The results showed deficiencies and non-compliance with the legislation and lack of attention to the problem by the responsible institutions. As a conclusion, the need for the conscious application of the provisions, the operation of the System and its instruments, the allocation of the necessary budget and above all, increase the prevention work and the initiative to adopt practical solutions at the level of the autonomous government of the territory.

This paper presents the work of 5 PhD students in elaboration of their doctoral thesis, especially for the first part of the thesis, namely the state of the art. The method used was The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA). Using the chart flow and the list of items of this method, a literature search was conducted in Science Direct Freedom Collection, Elsevier database, Web of Science - Core Collection, Springer Link Journals. In this paper are given 2 examples of systematic reviews that were obtained using PRISMA method.

The idea to write music for silent films, both in a form of written-down scores and composed live has experienced its renaissance for more than ten years. Thanks to a quite decent number of preserved theatre instruments and also due to the globalisation and wide data flow options connected with it, the knowledge and interest in Anglo-Saxon tradition of organ accompaniment in cinema were able to spread away from its place of origin. The article is the third part of four attempts to present the phenomenon of combination of the art of organ improvisation with cinematography and it was based on the fragments of the doctoral thesis entitled “Current methods of organ improvisation as performance means in the accompaniment for silent films based on the selected musical and visual work”. The dissertation was written under the supervision of prof. dr hab. Elżbieta Karolak and was defended at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznań in 2020. The article focuses on the profile of Robert Hope-Jones, an eccentric creator of cinema organ. It describes the period preceding the time when typical theatre instruments called “Mighty Wurlitzer” acquired their final shape, i.e., from the introduction of first electromagnetic tracture innovations in England, to the establishment of Hope Jones’s collaboration with the Wurlitzer company in the United States of America and the creation of instruments of the Unit Organ type.

The Doctoral Thesis illustrates the author’s research in the field of VHDL based ‘neuro-fuzzy controllers’. The Thesis examines a novel software tool for the high-level ‘neuro-fuzzy controller’ description capable of executing controller simulations, optimisation tasks, performing learning / training tasks, and exporting the controller in VHDL code. The author introduces a design strategy that is looking for developing solutions for complex controller architecture of mobile robotic vehicles (of any nature) or even for multiple industrial application. This work enables further investigative research into autonomous robotics, particularly into the physical implementation of an autonomous aerial unmanned vehicle from an inexpensive RC plane.

E lele le toloa, ae maˈau i le vai The toloa will fly far and wide, but will always return to the water—Samoan proverb In my doctoral thesis, I examined the barriers to and enablers of academic success for Pacific tertiary health students at the University of Auckland. Ten years on, now back at the University of Auckland, I find myself again reflecting on the barriers to and enablers of academic success for Pacific academics. This reflection piece stems from a seminar I gave for the University of Auckland’s Pacific Research Hub, entitled “Constructing Resilience: Lessons from An Accidental Pacific Academic.” Initially, I was only going to speak to my current research project on Pacific youth resilience. But I was encouraged to share my experiences as a Samoan researcher and academic, especially for early career researchers. I therefore decided to use the seminar as a talanoa to share my experiences and have an honest discussion about some of the challenges that we, as Pacific researchers, experience within the academy. Rather than trying to sell a fairy tale, I decided to use the opportunity for real talk, sharing some of the things I wish someone had told me before I went down the academic path.

Adolescents face difficult developmental tasks and multiple challenges and are exposed to very varied risk factors. In case the protection factors are not strong enough, they can generate many difficulties or emotional and behavioral disorders, especially due to the fragility and vulnerability of the adolescent's inner world during this period. This paper presents an analysis of the protection factors underlying the resilience of young offenders admitted in educational centers in Romania. The analysis is part of a broader research conducted in a doctoral thesis. The conclusions show us that the basic pillar of reeducating these young people relies in completing their studies at least at the level of primary school and the orientation towards learning a profession, so that those who blame material deprivation as the cause of delinquency have the possibility to earn a living through work.
