We present polarization measurements obtained in 1970 in the green coronal line with a new coronameter located at the Pic du Midi. The analysis of these data has been conducted with the theory given by the writer in 1964 and 1965. It appears that magnetic field orientations in the Corona can be deduced from the above measurements. First results showing large scale magnetic structures are presented.

After a decade of no measurements of pion and muon rare decays, PIBETA, a new experimental program is producing its first results. We report on a new experimental study of the pion beta decay, π+→π0e+ν, the πe2γ radiative decay, π+→e+νγ, and muon radiative decay, [Formula: see text]. The new results represent four- to six-fold improvements in precision over the previous measurements. Excellent agreement with Standard Model predictions is observed in all channels except for one kinematic region of the πe2γ radiative decay involving energetic photons and lower-energy positrons.

This paper presents ongoing experimental aerodynamic and efficiency measurements on a cold flow two-stage axial air test turbine with low reaction steam turbine blades at different degrees of partial admission. The overall objectives of the work are to experimentally investigate and quantify the steady and unsteady aerodynamic losses induced by partial admission. The first results show that both the total-to-static turbine efficiency drops and that the efficiency peak appears at lower isentropic velocity ratios with lower degrees of admission. Detailed steady traverse measurements of the static wall pressures downstream of sector-ends show strong local variations. The pressure wake from the partial admission blockage moves almost axially through the turbine while the temperature wake is located in a tangential position that represents the position of a particle trace based on velocity triangles, in the direction of the rotor rotation. Comparisons with 2D compressible flow computations around the circumference demonstrate the importance of the radial flow component in these experiments.

An experimental study of airblast atomization has been conducted using a specially designed atomizer in which the liquid is first spread into a thin sheet and then exposed on both sides to high-velocity air. The first results of this study, reported in reference [1], were confined to the effects of liquid properties, namely, viscosity, surface tension, and density on atomization quality. Since then the experimental data have been extended to include the influence of air properties, notably temperature and pressure, on-mean drop size. The purpose of this paper is to present these data and to show that the effects of both air and liquid properties on atomization quality are described by the following dimensionless equation: SMD/t=A(σeρe/t)0.5(Vaρa)−1.0(1+We/Wa)+B(ηe2/σeρat)0.425(1+We/Wa)2

The paper reports on the results of an experimental study aimed at identifying left-handed potters based on ornamentation impressions on clay vessels. The experiment involved 33 left-handed persons and 31 right-handed persons. It confirmed the hypothesis put forward by the author that Fatyanovo ceramics featuring rhomb figures with inclination of the impressions towards the left (from the northwest to the southeast) were made by left-handed persons.
