The research of a condition of peripheral territories is of special interest within formation of a spatial paradigm of development of regional social and economic system. Differentiation of level of social and economic development of peripheral territories is natural process and is subject to complex studying for formation of adequate instruments of management within spatial social and economic policy. In article special attention is paid to formation of system and diagnostic approach for identification of level of social and economic development of territories on the basis of the composite indicator and also to justification and calculation of indicators of unevenness of development of peripheral territories.

AbstractThe highly optimized natural process of oxygenic photosynthesis leads to the formation of redox equivalents, such as NADPH, that can be used to fuel heterologous biotransformations in phototrophic microorganisms. We investigated the reduction of 2-methylmaleimide by the ene-reductase YqjM in the cyanobacterium Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803 and doubled the productivity of the cells by inactivating flavodiironproteins (FDPs) as competing electron sink under self-shading conditions, reaching 18.3 mmol h−1 L−1.

Negative effects of environmental pollution pose a significant risk to agriculture, water resources and human health. This can however be reduced by selecting appropriate materials in construction and landscape architecture. It is well-known that strong sunlight or ultraviolet light decomposes many organic materials in a slow natural process. Photocatalytic substances accelerate this process and when used in concrete (which is one of the most widely used construction materials), permit the treatment of pollutants close to their source by applying a self-cleaning principle: decomposing organic materials, biological materials and pollutants into molecules like oxygen, water, carbon dioxide, nitrates, and sulphates. Catalytic material activation will start due to energy that is received from sunlight (it also can be activated using artificial lights), and self-cleaning begins when this material is activated. Beside other properties, this innovative self-cleaning concrete also keeps its colour for far longer than other traditional building materials, making it a desirable solution for landscaping applications.

ABSTRACT The adaptive immune system of prokaryotes, called CRISPR-Cas (clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats and CRISPR-associated genes), results in specific cleavage of invading nucleic acid sequences recognized by the cell’s “memory” of past encounters. Here, we exploited the properties of native CRISPR-Cas systems to program the natural “memorization” process, efficiently generating immunity not only to a bacteriophage or plasmid but to any specifically chosen DNA sequence. IMPORTANCE CRISPR-Cas systems have entered the public consciousness as genome editing tools due to their readily programmable nature. In industrial settings, natural CRISPR-Cas immunity is already exploited to generate strains resistant to potentially disruptive viruses. However, the natural process by which bacteria acquire new target specificities (adaptation) is difficult to study and manipulate. The target against which immunity is conferred is selected stochastically. By biasing the immunization process, we offer a means to generate customized immunity, as well as provide a new tool to study adaptation.
