Students with emotional and behavioral disorders (EBD) are frequently on the receiving end of intervention models (e.g., social skills training) in which targeted skills are modeled and practiced in unnatural arrangements (i.e., teacher-lead). Special educators consistently report a need for effective interventions and instructional arrangements that promote social-behavioral skills of students with EBD in natural learning environments (i.e., with peers). When students with EBD are provided the opportunity to serve in the role of tutor (i.e., on the instructional delivery end of the model), increases in academic and behavioral skills have been found for both tutors and tutees. This article provides an overview of effective procedures and considerations for training, supervising, and supporting students with EBD as cross-age tutors.

The article provides data from a survey of 61 children (members of families of militants of the Islamic State terrorist organization) released from an Iraqi prison. Mental, psychological and behavioral disorders identified during clinical and psychological examination are described. The role of multiple psycho-traumatic factors in the construction of mental disorders in children who are forced to stay in a zone of local military conflict for a long time and survived heavy losses is shown. Based on the results, 6 groups were identified, united by similar symptoms and gender-age characteristics. It is noted that such general psychodynamic trends as a delay in psychophysical development and pedagogical neglect come to the fore, accompanied by situationally caused anxiety-depressive reactions provoked by additional psycho-traumatic factors (separation from mother, change of habitual settings and environment). The necessity of taking into account the religious, ethical and ethno-cultural characteristics in the examination and development of a set of rehabilitation measures for these children is shown. Attention is focused on the difficulties of adaptation and rehabilitation of this population in a society which is new for them, constant dynamic monitoring of the examined is justified.

Objective: The objective of the study was to evaluate the antidepressant activity of quercetin in monosodium glutamate (MSG) model of depressed male mice. Methods: MSG was administered (500 mg/kg) to different groups of albino male mice daily for 21 days to induce depression. The interventions (Quercetin and imipramine) were started on day 9th and continued till 21st day. On 23rd day, mice are sacrificed, hippocampus and amygdala supernatant are subjected for analysis. p<0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: There was a statistically significant reduction in interleukin (IL)-6 levels in animals treated with quercetin and imipramine compared to control group (p<0.001). There was also a statistically significant increase in brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels in quercetin with MSG groups (p<0.05) and imipramine with MSG groups (p<0.01). There was no statistically significant difference in IL-6 and BDNF levels between the groups of animals treated with quercetin (100 mg/kg) and imipramine (10 mg/kg) alone. Conclusion: Quercetin appeared to have an antidepressant activity. More extensive research is required to substantiate and elucidate the role of quercetin in behavioral disorders such as depression.
