Behavioral Systems Theory: A SurveyWe survey the so-called behavioral approach to systems and control theory, which was founded by J. C. Willems and his school. The central idea of behavioral systems theory is to put the focus on the set of trajectories of a dynamical system rather than on a specific set of equations modelling the underlying phenomenon. Moreover, all signal components are treated on an equal footing at first, and their partition into inputs and outputs is derived from the system law, in a way that admits several valid cause-effect interpretations, in general.

we study the parameter identification of a class of non-autonomous chaotic system in this paper. Based on the stability theory, we implement accurate identification by suitable adaptive law are given to identify any uncertain parameters of a class of nonautonmous chaotic systems. Theory analysis and numerical simulations of Dufffing chaotic system is presented to verify that the adaptive control to identify the parameters are effective and feasible.

This chapter moves from the original form of attachment theory and research to a more comprehensive behavioral systems theory of personality, motivation, and social behavior that considers both individual differences and the impact on mental processes and behavior of relationship partners and other aspects of social situations. The chapter begins by explaining the behavioral systems construct, including its species-universal and individual-differences aspects, which interact with social situations to shape social behavior. The behavioral systems studied to date are discussed: attachment, exploration, caregiving, sex, and power. More emphasis is placed on the attachment system than on the other behavioral systems because it has received more research attention, but new research related to the other behavioral systems is summarized. Avenues are suggested for further theorizing and research that will lead to a more complete behavioral systems theory of personality and social behavior.

When I started practice as a mediator in Ireland in 1986, conflict intervention theory for analysis and practice was scarce. We relied on John Haynes’ writing and workshops to develop critical thinking and skills in our work. Systems theory, with its link with family therapy and the systemic ideas that have developed from it, was adapted by Haynes and Fong to offer a holistic framework within which to place mediation, in particular family mediation. Systems theory, analysis, skills and practice are no less relevant today. We have therefore republished an article by Jon Amundson and Larry Fong on “Systemic/ Strategic Aspects and Potentials in the Haynes Model of Divorce Mediation”. This article builds on the article “New Paradigms in Mediation: Thinking About Our Thinking” published in the 2017(2) edition of this journal in which Fong sets out the basics of this theory’s application to mediation.
