A detailed substantiation of the use of electric energy storage devices in the presence of generators on renewable energy sources in the power supply system is given. The dependence of the storage parameters on the composition and priority of generation in the system is investigated. The solution of the problem of determining the parameters of electricity storage devices by means of purposeful simulation of generation parameters is considered. The results of the choice of power and capacity of the energy storage using technical and economic indicators are shown. Optimal parameters of electric energy storage devices as one of the most important means of ensuring the activity of isolated power supply systems together with selection of generating devices are determined. The results of calculations of capacity of renewable energy sources in isolated power supply systems in combination with classical energy sources are given. The necessity of using the principle of activity of the distribution electric network and the possibility of its realization is demonstrated. The optimal storage capacity as a function of the share of renewable generation, the non-integrated energy produced by renewable sources and the total storage capacity are plotted for several isolated systems. The main points of the used model of the power supply system of isolated networks are given. In the studied isolated power supply systems, wind power plants and solar power plants, which have significant unpredictability of generation, are used as generation based on renewable energy sources. The problem of undersupply of electricity to the grid by stepwise increase of generation is analysed. The results of the multi-step selection of power and energy consumption of electricity storage are determined by technical criteria.

This paper presents the comparative dynamic analysis of full bridge and half bridge three port dc-dc converter topology interfacing the renewable energy sources along with the energy storage devices. The three port converter comprises the active bridge circuit and the three winding transformer. It uses single power conversion stage with high frequency link to control power flow between the batteries, load and the renewable energy sources. The power flow between the ports is controlled by phase shifting the square wave outputs of the active bridges in combination with pulse width modulation (PWM) technique. The analysis reveals that the battery discharges when the source is not sufficient to supply the load and it was charged when the source alone is capable of supplying the load. Hence there is a bidirectional power flow in the storage port when there is a transition in the source.

The usage of renewable energy sources and energy storage devices allows an enterprise to reduce its electricity supply costs. Significant savings can be achieved only in the case of a well-organized system of managing energy flows of the enterprise and electricity consumption. The puprpose of the study was to analyze the existing storage devices and renewable energy sources, and on the basis of the analysis, introduce an approach to organizing energy supply of the enterprise based on the usage of storage devices and renewable energy sources. The approach introduced implies the electricity purchase schedule curve optimization to minimize the total costs. The purchase schedule curve optimization for the case of energy storage usage is an ill-posed problem. Within the framework of solving the problem, the form of the curve was formalized to a piecewise constant function, which made it possible to solve it by applying multi-criteria optimization based on a modified method of directed random search. We analyzed a model case, for which an optimal purchase schedule curve was obtained using storage devices and solar panels, and the achievable economic effect from their use was graphed. The maximum value of operational costs, which makes the usage of energy storage and renewable energy source efficient, was found

The current paper presents an energy storage system that stores the excessive energy, provided by a hybrid system of renewable energy sources, in the form of compressed air and thermal heat. Using energy storage systems together with renewable energy sources represents a major challenge that could ensure the transition to a viable economic future and a decarbonized economy. Thermodynamic calculations are conducted to investigate the performance of such systems by using Matlab simulation tools. The results indicate the values of primary and global efficiencies for various operating scenarios for the energy storage systems which use compressed air as medium storage, and shows that these could be very effective systems, proving the possibility to supply to the final user three types of energy: electricity, heat and cold function of his needs.

This paper presents a novel, scalable, and modular multiport power electronic topology for the integration of multiple resources. This converter is not only scalable in terms of the integration of multiple renewable energy resources (RES) and storage devices (SDs) but is also scalable in terms of output ports. Multiple dc outputs of a converter are designed to serve as input to the stacking modules (SMs) of the modular multilevel converter (MMC). The proposed multiport converter is bidirectional in nature and superior in terms of functionality in a way that a modular universal converter is responsible for the integration of multiple RES/SDs and regulates multiple dc output ports for SMs of MMC. All input ports can be easily integrated (and controlled), and output ports also can be controlled independently in response to any load variations. An isolated active half-bridge converter with multiple secondaries acts as a central hub for power processing with multiple renewable energy resources that are integrated at the primary side. To verify the proposed converter, a detailed design of the converter-based system is presented along with the proposed control algorithm for managing power on the individual component level. Additionally, different modes of power management (emulating the availability/variability of renewable energy sources (RES)) are exhibited and analyzed here. Finally, detailed simulation results are presented in detail for the validation of the proposed concepts and design process.
