This manuscript describes cyclodextrin polymers formed as a thin coating on microcrystalline cellulose. The resulting polymer/cellulose composite shows promising performance for removing organic pollutants from water and can be packed into columns for continuous-flow experiments. The polymer/cellulose composite also shows excellent resistance to aerobic and anaerobic biodegradation.

There is carried out a number of experiments with the purpose of analyzing SOTS impact upon both finishing productivity, and physical-chemical state and tribological behavior of surfaces machined, and also a possibility for creation according to the results of the investigations carried out a relatively universal micro-emulsion SOTS based on existing in the Ukraine the line of oils, PAV, corrosion inhibitors, alloying additives etc. As SOTS samples there were used both well-known compouds, for example, Camix, Nope Right (USA), and carbamide having in its structure boron, boron-phosphorus-containing additive, water-solvable phosphate, tributyl phosphate (oil-solvable), concentrate SOTS tribol, having in its structure compounds of boron, nitrogen and phosphorous; ethylic ether of fatty acids; methyl ether of colza oil; Sarkozyl-O having in its structure easily-decomposable chlorine compounds. From the results obtained it is possible to draw a conclusion that during finishing in the environment of water-compatible SOTS an important role in the formation of the properties of the surface worked is played by hydrocarbon components and additives which contribute to the formation of the thinnest surface layers modified with carbon and oxygen.

A 9,10-dihydro-9-oxa-10-phosphaphenanthrene 10-oxide (DOPO) acrylate, (6-oxidodibenzo [c,e][1,2] oxaphosphinin-6-yl) methyl acrylate (DOPOAA), has been prepared. Copolymers of styrene (St) and DOPOAA were prepared by emulsion polymerization. The chemical structures of copolymers containing levels of DOPOAA were verified using Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy and 1H nuclear magnetic resonance (1H-NMR) spectroscopy. The thermal properties and flame-retardant behaviors of DOPO-containing monomers and copolymers were observed using thermogravimetric analysis and micro calorimetry tests. From thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), it was found out that the T5% for decomposition of the copolymer was lower than that of polystyrene (PS), but the residue at 700 °C was higher than that of PS. The results from micro calorimetry (MCC) tests indicated that the rate for the heat release of the copolymer combustion was lower than that for PS. The limiting oxygen index (LOI) for combustion of the copolymer rose with increasing levels of DOPOAA. These data indicate that copolymerization of the phosphorus-containing flame-retardant monomer, DOPOAA, into a PS segment can effectively improve the thermal stability and flame retardancy of the copolymer.
