Concrete-filled tubular flange girders have been used in bridges, and torsional bracings are widely used in them to increase the lateral-torsional buckling strength. This article proposes an analytical solution for the lateral-torsional buckling (LTB) of concrete-filled tubular flange steel girders with torsional bracing under a concentrated load. The modal trial functions of lateral displacement and the torsional angle are expressed by the first six terms of the trigonometric function. By introducing dimensionless parameters, the variational solution of energy for the buckling equation of the LTB of the girders is obtained, and the formula for the dimensionless critical moment of its LTB is derived using 1stOpt based on 32,550 data sets. Compared with the finite element method, the proposed critical formula is highly accurate and can be applied to engineering design. Finally, parametric studies were conducted on the effects of the stiffness of torsional bracing, the span of the girder, and the flange steel ratio.

This paper presents the effects of the several factors that influence lateral-torsional buckling on freestanding circular arches. The studied factors that attribute to the effects of lateral-torsional buckling include cross section type, included angle, slender ratio, imperfection, loading, and boundary conditions. From the reviewed studies, the misrepresentation of these factors to a certain extent may yield inaccurate results. Several studies and design codes have proposed different solutions to account for these factors in designs against lateral-torsional buckling for some structural elements. However, there were no studies reported on the out-of-plane lateral-torsional buckling of fixed circular arches made of structural aluminum channel sections subjected to central concentrated load. Therefore, there is a need for further research on the lateral-torsional buckling real behavior of fixed circular arches of structural aluminum channels.

Tubular flange composite beams are increasingly applied in modern bridge structures. In order to investigate the overall stability behavior of doubly symmetric tubular flange composite beams with lateral bracing under concentrated load, the analysis of elastic lateral-torsional buckling is conducted by the energy variation method. The analytical solution of critical moment of doubly symmetric tubular flange composite beams with lateral bracing is obtained. Meanwhile, the simplified calculation formula of critical moment is fitted by 1stOpt software based on 26,000 groups of data, and the accuracy is verified by the finite element method. It is found that, the critical moment rises obviously with increasing lateral bracing stiffness, and adding lateral bracing to doubly symmetric tubular flange composite beams is beneficial to improve the overall stability in engineering practice. Finally, the influence of several parameters including concrete strength, span, steel ratio of flange and height-thickness ratio of web are studied. The results show that the concrete strength and the web height-thickness ratio have a weak influence on critical moment of elastic lateral-torsional buckling, while the influence of span-depth ratio and flange steel ratio is very significant.

AbstrakBalok adalah komponen struktur lentur yang memikul beban gravitasi, beban gravitasi ini berupa beban mati danbeban hidup yang bekerja tegak lurus dengan sumbu longitudinal balok. Salah satu bentuk balok yang efisienadalah balok profil I yang dibentuk dengan pengelasan atau yang dikenal dengan sebutan balok baja I built-up. Dalam penelitian eksperimental ini, balok baja dibuat dengan memotong lembaran pelat baja menjadi elemenelemenpelat sayap dan pelat badan dengan menggunakan pengelasan sehingga membentuk suatu balok bajaprofil I (balok baja I built-up). Sedangkan konstruksi balok yang digunakan adalah konstruksi balok sederhana(simple beam) dengan beban terpusat di tengah bentang. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis kapasitas lenturdan mengetahui perilaku tekuk balok baja I built-up. Hasil dari ekeperimen ini dibandingkan dengan perhitungansesuai SNI 03-1729-2002 dan validasi dengan menggunakan software ANSYS. One form of an efficient beam is a beam profile I which is formed by welding or known as I built-upbeam.In this experimental study, the steel beam is made by cutting the sheet of steel plate into wing plate elements andbody plate by using welding to form a steel profile I (steel beam I built-up). The construction of beam is used asimple beam with concentrated load in the middle of the span. This study aims to obtain bending capacity andknow the buckling behavior of I built-up steel beam. The result of this experiment is compared with thecalculation according to SNI 03-1729-2002 and validation using ANSYS software.From this research, the bending capacity based on experiments is higher than that of SNI 03-1729-2002 andANSYS.
